Ireland politics (Part 1)

How many times are you gonna peddle that ill informed non-sense? Water chargers were being introduced to fund Irish water — money for actual restoration / fixing leaks and every thing else was gonna come from the same tax pool it had always come from

She had a pop at Peter Casey during the european election

McHugh wants to have this a couple of ways.

Firstly, on electoral politics, going off in a huff not just because she lost individually - but because she lost of the argument on going into Government. If she had got elected, she likely would not have resigned her seat today, she’d have left the party. She is angry at electoral politics as a whole because she has failed across multiple avenues of it.

Secondly, if you are going to espouse ideological purity on Green socialism, it is impossible to argue that activism is any more successful at achieving that purity. All it is is personal purity, as you can argue from the outside on one cause but not have to actually make difficult sacrifices on the inside Achieving one off wins on activism is just that, one offs. Numerous social reforms and social welfare pieces were brought through electoral politics. Of course in their dreamland Ireland is this terrible right wing country with few social benefits. Where did the likes of free second level comes from though? I know there is recency bias and tooting ones horn, but that is as important as repealing the 8th for anyone with a left wing mindset.

Saying “I don’t believe that our pathway to a just and free society lies in electoral politics” is a just a bizarre statement. You aren’t going to get there with referendums. I don’t think it comes from a place of dangerous ignorance on authoritarian regimes, I think it comes from naivety and self preservation. She is going to retreat to working for a state funded charity now, screaming about how shit Ireland is on Twitter, and campaigning on the odd issue.

Went for an easy target to get support on the left. So I can assume she’s been living off the 15 mins of fame since then?

She ran in the European elections and destroyed Peter Casey in a prime time debate. That’s partly why she is unpopular around here. A lot of simpletons love Casey

the long and the short of it

Ah I see why shes popular now. 2020 innit. She’s box office for the woke eco friendly crowd. Fair play to her hope it all works out but its true what they say, in times of crisis the right consolidation and the left divide

In fairness she’s in a constituency that used to elect 5 FFG candidates from 5 up until recently. Backward muldoons fucks. The wider EU candidacy constituency wasn’t much better in terms of inbred hicks. Her progressive, passionate and entirely sensible agenda has naturally garnered lots of interest. She’d be welcomed with open arms anywhere along the eastern seaboard.

This government has been hilarious so far.

This defeat will have FF and FG casting aspersions at each other.
