Ireland politics (Part 1)

The people of Ireland 1 - 0 Adolf Kenny
I’m sitting here flicking through the channels when I see some bird on Russia Today gabbing on about how fucked the country is.
She then proceeds to say how the new political party, ‘Direct Democracy Ireland’ is gathering huge momentum across the country.
She is now conducting an interview with some Gilroy lad in Navan who’s wearing a Puma baseball cap via Skype. He’s on about the banks, bondholders, repossessions and the constitution and that, and to be fair to him, he doesn’t sound like a complete tit.
First I’ve heard of Direct Democracy Ireland.
Any chance of them or any other new political movement rattling a few cages, ruffling a few feathers, putting the cat amongst the pigeons or any othe tired cliche/metaphor?

As an aside RT can be great craic at times. The anti-Fox.
He got more votes than the Labour candidate in the recent Meath East by election. He has been in the news a lot.

This cunt Collins running for local elections. Look at what the gimp is running with as his election manifesto - reducing home break-ins. “Do not leave door keys in their locks.”

Well he is the Fianna FĂĄil justice spokesman after all.

This must be a national FF policy. Averil Power had some handy tips on avoiding burglaries on a recent leaflet drop in Sutton. Locked doors were also recommended then.

The feckin’ window was wide open lads!! We’re blue in the face tellin ye - will ye lock before ye go to bed!!

A couple of miserable polls for Labour and FG in the last week.

Irish Times this morning has FF and FG neck and neck at 25%. Sinn FĂ©in are next on 21%. Independents and Others are also on 21%. Labour are on 8%.

A good chunk of thoe independents and others are left-leaning: Higgins, Pringle, Flanagan, Boyd-Barret, Wallace, Daly, Finian McGrath etc. It just shows how poor Labour have managed their grassroots and their left politics that voters have abandoned them in droves. With those independents plus Sinn FĂ©in and what’s left of Labour there could be a credible left wing alternative. There still might be, but Labour won’t be part of it because they ran for the safe conservative no-risk sanctuary of the middle ground.

Regina Doherty’s big retort to Michael Martin during the Shatter debate was about how FF were languishing in the low 20’s in the opinion polls.

Labour are not a genuine party of the left. It’s been a problem in Irish politics for a long time that we have had two parties almost exactly the same in policy dominating for a long time with no credible alternative. There’s a massive opportunity for Sinn FĂ©in to kick on here. Some of the independents are good but some are of the loony left variety.

The son of Sinn Fein TD Aengus O Snodaigh is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in Dublin.

Gardai have launched an investigation after Fergus O’Snodaigh (18) was stabbed in the arm in his home on the Old Naas Road in the early hours of this morning.

Sources say the victim was stabbed by another male who is well known to him.

The suspect’s whereabouts are unknown and investigating officers are seeking to question him.

Aengus O’Snodaigh, who is a TD for Dublin South Central, was out socialising with his wife when the incident occurred at around 12.30am.

The victim is believed to have phoned the emergency services after being stabbed in the upper arm. He is currently being treated in St Jame’s Hospital where his condition is said to be “serious but stable”.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Could make for a good sibilant tongue-twisting headline.

Shock as Shinner’s Son Stabbed Saturday.

Was it his brother that stabbed him?

He was stabbed over a sports video game. At least grand theft auto can’t be blamed on this.

Seems reasonable.

I can easily understand it

Stabbed in the shin, I mean arm

Shinner’s son has arm decommissioned

Arm-a-fight and the X-Box

Shinner’s son didn’t Fein injury

O’Snodaigh’s son diagnosed with an IRA (injured right arm)

My name is O’Snodaigh, I’m just gone 18,
My home is in Dublin it’s there I was weaned
I learned all my life cruel England to blame
And then I got stabbed over a video game

Arm-a-fight and the X-Box is the winner there.

In light of emerging info the headline could now read:

Shock as Shinner’s Son Stabbed Saturday by Sulking Sibling after SuperMario Session.

When o snodaigh was asked if he could identify the suspect he said “ni ceapaim”
