Ireland politics (Part 1)

Uncontested as no one else was nominated. #democracy

Sure he said he would only put his name forward if there was no contest. It doesnā€™t matter anyway because when Kelly leaves Labour wont have speaking rights anyway.

Hā€™an Wexford!

So currently the only party leader from Dublin is Eamon Ryan

I donā€™t think this is the case? Iā€™m sure I remember reading before that if a party wins seven seats at an election they retain speaking rights even if they subsequently lose TDs.

The requirement for speaking rights is being lowered to five TDs anyway.

Informative

No, it is not correct. By my reckoning I can name at least 4 Waterford TDā€™s who have been full Ministers.

@Fagan_ODowd will be along shortly to confirm these names (having revised his affirmation).

Martin Cullen, Austin Deasy and some chap from up the country that Dev parachuted in in the 30s. Thatā€™s about it as far as I recall.

Eddie Collins, Jackie Fahey and Paudie Coffey were junior ministers.

PJ Little, John Ormonde, Austin Deasy and Martin Cullen were all full Ministers.

All presumably usless but thatā€™s the norm for all of them. And donā€™t bother with the retort to name the Leitrim Ministers - I donā€™t think weā€™ve ever had one.

Yeah Ormonde was the one I missed. Minister for a year and a half in the 50s. Little was the fellow from up the country. Deasy was an able man but too odd to anything for the constituency. Cullen for all his faults was a great man for Waterford.

Wasnā€™t Albert Reynolds born in Leitrim?

Negative to that Elvis. Born on the Roscommon side of the river in Rooskey.

I see Dr Michael Harty has already withdrawn his support from the FF government

Waterford people obviously donā€™t have the mentality for ministering

With the flipping and the flopping and the hipping and the hopping

These lads still havenā€™t fully figured out that if theyā€™ve been bought - thereā€™s a quid pro quo ā€¦

Thatā€™s fairly funny with John Halligan. They spend 50 or 60 days negotiating a programme for government and come to an agreed compromise on water and he goes on radio a couple of weeks later saying heā€™ll vote against it.

All these independents will be shown up as right mugs if this government runs for any length of time.

Heā€™s also after spilling the beans on the fact he got a specific deal for his constituency and now FF are demanding that these deals be published.
