Ireland politics (Part 3)

It shouldn’t be like this though. At times its a case of 'He who shouts loudest gets the care". Often at the expense of those who don’t shout or have someone to shout on their behalf.

Getting into a VHI clinic or something is obviously better for certain things. I have my doubts on emergencies and things like cancer. Private A&E is only relatively recent (Beacon had it for a long time but others have added it like the Blackrock Clinic). Will be a nicer experience and you might get checked a bit sooner but I doubt it based on severity. You aren’t getting into the Blackrock Clinic after 6 either.

You go into a public hospital like Vincents and they’ll ask you for your health insurance in the A&E after you get through but that’s just to fleece the companies and maybe get you a semi private room eventually (but that will depend on your age and the vibes as well).

But I think that’s just a fact of medicine. You’re dealing with chains of people who only have so much bandwidth and have different personalities.

To a certain extent yes. But I’m pretty sure my father in law would have died in January only Mrs Barnes intervened. He’d had 3 bouts of chemo and was really sick from them. He went into hospital for the fourth and the doctor asked him how he was feeling. He gave the answer all 80 year old Wexford roasters give when asked that question ā€˜Grand’ (even though he looked like he was actually dead). Mrs Barnes arrived shortly after and went and found the doctor and listed off the various ailments and side effects her Dad was experiencing. Oh! Says the doctor. ā€˜We better send him for some tests’. Turns out he had a number of clots among other things and he would hardly have survived another bout of Chemo. The father in law promptly gave out stink to mrs barnes because he now had to stay in hospital for a week!

I know this is a one off story but I’ve had similar experiences with my own parents and myself. Anyone with the means has no choice but to have health insurance. That shouldn’t be the case. Proper healthcare of all things should not be a commodity that only well off people can afford.

The ould lad won’t wear his hearing aids going to consultant appointments, so he just smiles and nods at everything said to him so as to get out the gap quicker.

I actually laughed out loud at that… My uncle does that as well, drives my aunt and my cousins absolutely spare…

I’m again unsure of the point here. You need to advocate for yourself in private healthcare too.

Who’s the TD/ex TD who provided a sex offender with a character reference?

The boys have just announced toilets for the Raheny GAA pitches in St Anne’s Park. Well overdue & really needed for the kids’ teams in particular.

Cant be a FG politician because slithery Simon wants him to step forward and face the music.

The changes to pitches 12 to 16 in st Anne’s have led to a lot of ill feeling in Barrog - talks of Raheny gaa, Raheny united and DCC being in cahoots

Get your own council park in Kilbarrack.

This is a concerning post given your history of hanging around toilets.

All politics is local….

I don’t think there are better doctors and nurses in the private system

Neither do I but there are more of them per patient by a long stretch. You don’t hear of too many people dying on trolleys in The Blackrock Clinic.

I could be wrong but I don’t think they deal with messy things or emergencies much then either. They are all about the handy stuff to make easy money.
That was my initial point really that if it’s an emergency or anything serious you are dealt with quickly and well in the vast majority of cases in the public system. Obviously there are exceptions but as Tim says you are dealing with human beings.

The Blackrock clinic has an Emergency Dept. As does The Beacon, Mater Private etc.

Shrugging your shoulders and saying its just ā€˜human beings’ when talking about the HSE is a bit Marie Antoinette. It’s a shit show and has been for a generation. It shouldn’t be like this considering how wealthy the country is. That’s the point I’m making.

There’s truth in what both of us are saying. It’s not near as bad as is made out but it could be a lot, lot better
