Ireland politics (Part 3)

I’m not a medical expert by any means and I know my auld lad would probably do the same but can we really blame the doctors/hospital if a patient is telling them they feel grand?

It seems to be administration piece to get you into the system that is an unholy mess. From what I can see from recent experience there is no central ID for the individual with all their records. It seems to be a mish-mash of systems across various departments all holding incomplete information.

I know someone who got surgery in the autumn and got a letter yesterday with a referral to a consultant to have the same surgery they had in the autumn.

It would inevitably be an unmitigated shit show, but surely there’s merit in a complete IT overhaul (and maybe it’s happening), because I’d say some amount of HSE money is lost in dead end admin.

Ah stop. An 80 year old aul lad looking like death warmed up in the bed and the doctor signing off on a treatment of chemo that has the potential to kill him.

We never had a fully public health system and we’re not a wealthy country that long. Takes a long time to sort out a mess that big when coming from a low base. Does seem to me to be improving. Facing down the consultants (by throwing money at them) was a major step.

As I said, the Blackrock Clinic A&E closes at 6. It’s not a fully comprehensive service.

At the end of the day, the A&Es are ground zero for people with emergencies. There’s always going to be traumatic instances.

Even gold standard US emergency rooms are far closer to a Vincents than a Blackrock Clinic from my experience.

Something like 80%+ of admissions into public hospitals is via unscheduled care ie A&E while it would be way way lower in private hospitals. Makes bed management a good bit harder

There’s better doctors in the public , a lot of elderly folk with private health insurance will first try to get into public but then if the delay is too much they’ll go private

This is the nub of a huge amount of problems. Everything on paper. Systems don’t talk to each other. My sister had to keep her own notes when expecting. Most notes still on paper. Takes days or weeks to find them when patients re admitted.
Recipe for disaster. Everybody seems to acknowledge the problem but there doesn’t seem to be any immediate plan to fix it

Matt Carthy (SF) is being approached by constituents who can’t afford to drive to work due to the current spike in fuels. Petrol +10c Diesel +25c.

You’d imagine that Matt might have been able to alleviate the woes of the diesel users…

Matt is quickly rivalling Thowbeen as the Prince of Whingers/Moaners.

Matt Carthy is a politician of the people - the Facebook People.

A different species entirely.

To be clear - Matt is the fuckwit’s fuckwit.

Are his constituents happy with the washed variety though?

Unions won’t tolerate a quick transition to digital.

Well the Cavan half of the constituency are notoriously parsimonious and the Monaghan part would be quite likely to be familiar with its benefits.
