Richard Boyd Barrett on with Claire Byrne now discussing his throat cancer diagnosis and its treatment. His voice is altered noticeably but it’s a result of the burning of what I took to be the tumour. He’s had a fairly rigorous few months but he certainly didn’t wrap the process up in floral bouquets. He’s having a rocky period but tells us that he’s dodged the bullet this time.

I was never a fan of his but he’s been very clear, honest, informative and had nothing but praise for each and every person who looked after him. He’s had a really tough 6 months.

I wish him the best for the future. We don’t know how well off we are sometimes……

He was very much back to his combative self talking about housing just now on the radio.

Despite being on the winning side, the socialist TD for Dublin West still found time to complain that Aontú’s Peadar Tóibín shouldn’t have been given such a prominent seat and moan about members of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael muscling in for photographs with the Left’s President.

She posted a picture of her smiling photo-op with Catherine to prove her point.

Fine Gael’s Frank Feighan was among the people in the background, minding his own business, waiting innocently in the queue for his chance to congratulate the woman who is now his President.

Magnanimous Ruth says she wouldn’t have been at the reception had Heather Humphreys won the election.

The concept of a President for All – warmly embraced on the day by those politicians who campaigned for a different candidate – appears to have bypassed Deputy Coppinger.

Paschal Donohoe is to step down as Minister for Finance and take up a position at the World Bank, Cabinet ministers have been told.

It is understood that Mr Donohoe has been offered the role of managing director – effectively the number two position at the bank – and has he informed the Taoiseach and Tánaiste that he will accept it.

It’s surely time for Fianna Fáil to jettison perennial loser/runner Mary Fitzpatrick. She’s great at council elections, has 1 successful Seanad election but her Dáil runs read like Longford footballers LLLLL. Hutch has troubles of his own atm and I’d rate him a doubtful starter.
