Looks like Bandage has given up on the cricket threads.
Anyway Ireland are 128-2 after 34 overs. Just lost 2 quick wickets in succession but that’s decent scoring because they can go on and hit out for the last few overs if they keep wickets in hand.
Why is it that Joyce could play for Ireland one day and then England the next day once he had served his time in England but if he wants to play for Ireland again he’d have to wait 4 years after leaving England?
Double standards. This is really annoying me now how they run cricket.
Opening up a small bit now. 165 for 3 from 40 overs. Last 3 overs have gone for 5,15,5. About time we upped the scoring but we can still make a good score from this position.
Johnston moved himself up the over and he’s got 11 from 11 but Kev O’Brien has really opened up. Just hit a cracking 6. 44 from 39 balls or something. Ireland are 208
Very good start from Ireland’s bowlers. Langford Smith has been very tight but dangerous. Rankin has bowled far too many wides but he’s caused them problems when he’s bowled better deliveries and just picked up the first wicket to leave Bangladesh 18-1 after 6 overs.
Superb performance from Ireland so far. Fielding and bowling have both been top drawer. Langford Smith just ended his 10 overs there with figures of 2-27 - not bad especially considering he really struggled in the last over and gave away 6 runs then.
TJ seems to have had an absolutely superb day with bat, ball and captaincy.
Great knock by Porterfield too given the heat and the fact he only hit 3 boundaries meant he did an awful lot of running for 1s and 2s.
We’re a full proper ODI side for the next 2 years now which is great for us. We have a series planned for Stormont this summer with 2 other teams to be announced.
rocko, is that you on the Guardian OBO coverage there?
Not me, unless they quoted me without me mailing them.
Great to see we got the full one-day status. How generous of the “owners” of the game.
Trent was indeed superb in everything he did. Porterfield had a great knock and made a couple of cracking stops in the field. That’s where we battered them - fielding. Smashing attitude and we made a conscious decision to outrun them which we did superbly.
Our fielding has been superb. Even watching us defend our paltry 91 the other day against the Aussies the fielding was fantastic. Great to see the lads getting dirty all around the park. Shame for you about the OBO what with them quoting me during the New Zealand game last Monday.
