He’d make some job of it, wind him up and set him in the direction of England

Not sure how you could read that piece as in any way a criticism of Kenny. Fanning absolutely despises O’Neill and to a lesser extent McCarthy
He’s not all bad so
More a criticism of Irish football in general. It wasn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for Kenny either.
Malone was fairly critical of the Bulgarian performance.
There is a difference between being critical and going hatchet. O’Neill got turned on towards the end and it was viscous both ways, but he treated the journalists with utter disdain from day 1
I don’t remember there being too much widespread hatchet jobs on Mick, he is generally good with the journos
Malone isn’t critical of Kenny at all there either.
How about some mild criticism or mention of the fact he waited so long to bring on subs in a game where nobody was playing well or that he’s played the same formation in every single game?
Kerr did about as well as could be expected in his first campaign for Euro 2004, we were already behind the 8 ball as it was. He eeked out 10 points from two games against Albania and Georgia and drew with Russia and kept us in contention until the last match which if we won would have gotten a play off.
We drew away to France and Switzerland and were in great shape at the half way point of WC 2006 qualifying. Throwing away a late lead to Isreal away didn’t help but I think he lost the dressing room after the Isreal game at home - 2-0 up and cruising after 30 minutes and one of our strikers gets injured and he brings on Graham Kavanagh to replace him and change shape. It is 2-2 at half time and we barely produce a chance of note in the second half. We followed it with lackluster performances at home against France and Switzerland where we created nothing.
Maybe if he didn’t bottle the Isreal home game things could have been different but the bottom fell out of that team pretty quick after that result and he lost the dressing room - If the players really wanted him to have kept his job he would have. They were sick of him come the finish
he doesn’t directly call out Kenny for anything but the performance was called limp and that reflects on the manager. There was very little positive in it either way which reflected the performance.
Malone may not be too perturbed about bringing on Josh Cullen and Jack Byrne so late or the fact that he hasn’t tried a different formation.
Do you want him to be upset about the same things you are?
If you want to write your own story become a journalist
I’m just calling for a bit of balance which none of those mentioned have shown as they have with other managers in the past
Neither of those articles are unbalanced. Sounds like you want them to go after Kenny a bit more.
I want them to show a bit of balance. If you’re going to criticise one manager heavily for something, then don’t let the next manager away with excuses
regardless of context with regards to timing, circumstance etc?
O’Neill was blatantly disrespectful and didn’t hide his disdain for the media from day 1. he can have no complaints or sympathy for them turning on him
McCarthy I can’t recall ever getting a hatchet job done on him. Maybe you can
Stephen Kenny has had a lot of rotten luck since he got the job, I think we can all agree with that. I don’t think that means that he shouldn’t get mild criticism for things which he does control
Kerr was black guarded by the players who wanted to drink pints and jump on beds instead of watching 8 hour DVDs of Israel
I’m fairly certain the criticism will come if things don’t improve.
All it will take is for one journalist to jump the gate and then it will be open season. It is the way it is. They’re afraid to jump in because they don’t know what way the wind is blowing, yet.
Don’t for one second think they won’t throw Kenny under the bus if opinion sways that way
Kenny needs to be less awkward in front of the camera too. He was pretty bad last night. He was fidgety and short in his answers and made a load of excuses. Not good
He has such an awkward manner we are sure to get a reprise of those passive aggressive interviews of MON by Tony O’Donoghue
now I don’t know Tony O’Donoghue from Adam, but the guy is only trying to do a job.
Martin treated him with utter contempt. The withering looks before answering used make me laugh all the same
Of course the criticism will come but rather than turning when everybody turns and its easy they should be able to point out flaws in performances while acknowledging the difficulties Kenny has had.
A blind man could see that we needed the subs earlier last night
so you want someone to validate your opinion that the subs should have come on earlier?
I agree with you, does that help?
Sure anybody could have seen the subs should have came on earlier, it’s not just me and you. If they didn’t think that then they shouldn’t be writing about football for a living
try become a journalist then
