Nice to see the enjoyment Richard Keogh got from scoring for Ireland.
Oddly contrasting to Cox looking weirdly disappointed when Keane gets his second, though perhaps he just has a curious gait.
Austria and Sweden play each other Friday night. What is the ideal result here for us? a draw I presume as they are due to meet in October again and we would want austria to have something to play for and also the fact that it would leave us two points ahead of both albeit with Sweden having a game in hand against the Faroes on the 11th
Yeah I think a draw is probably best. We can still beat Sweden at home so don’t need to panic yet and hope they get beaten. I’m not sure Austria will have any less to play for than us but I know what you mean - keep them in the race but they have a really good chance of finishing ahead of us of course.
James McCarthy and Shane Long are suspended for Friday night’s game. The manager said yesterday that Dunne and Hoolahan are likely to be available. Was Dunne used the other day?
He barely felt the weight of it apart from horribly misplacing a left footed sidefoot up the field. He did get a tremendous reception however from the adoring fans.

More of a chance of beating Austria away.
The second paragraph there is true. We may well need to beat Sweden though, depending on how they do against Austria, particularly given the point they got against Germany that we’re unlikely to match.
Yeah I accept that but I don’t think we’ll do it. I also don’t think we’ll get second. We’re just not good enough, not that Sweden are any great shakes. Had we beaten Austria in the Aviva then I still thought we would struggle to get ahead of Sweden given our unlikliness to beat them at home, and also given them picking up the point against Germany. Now - no chance.
Yeah I agree with all that. Austria have better players than us too to be honest but we really should have beaten them and we’d have a much better chance had we done so.

Ah lovely. Daniel McDonnell of the Irish Independent tweets that the team in bibs in training today is:

Forde,
Coleman, O’Shea, St Ledger, Wilson,
Cox, Whelan, Hoolahan, McGeady,
Keane, Walters.

That’ll be the side for Friday night so. Not really surprising given the absence through suspension of McCarthy and Long and it’s probably too soon for Dunne to return.

Irish team in bibs today has Coleman, O’Shea, St Ledger, Wilson in defence, then Cox, Whelan, Wes, McGeady and Keane/Walters
Pleased with that team. Good chance for Hoolahan and would rather see Walters up front and Cox on the wing based on Cox’s showing at the weekend. Hopefully Hendrick gets a run at some stage too.
Who’s going on Friday by the way? I shall be there.
