Ireland v Spain 3-3 euro qualifers 1984

Came across this game on youtube. Ireland came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3. Cracking game and unbelievable atmosphere. Kevin o Callaghan star of escape to victory was class on the wing. A shame that Irish team of early 80s didn’t qualify for a major tournament. Quality outfit.

Did you think about posting the link up?

I’m useless at that stuff mate, sorry.

A fucking brilliant game it was. That Irish strip was class, I got the whole kit for Christmas that year. Some team

Ireland played some great football. A forgotten game.

What an atmosphere. Light years ahead of modern games.

The atmosphere at Ireland games was class right up until they knocked down old Lansdowne Road. There’s hardly any point in going now.

Soccer at Lansdowne Road was great in brightness before floodlights were installed

How did everyone used to get the day off work?

That was some side. Robbed in qualifying for the euros and 82 World Cup

Midfielder grealish looked really impressive. Had he a good club career?

Ok career he had - played in 1983 FA Cup Final . His brother played in goal for Father Casey’s senior footballers and also hurled with Tour

Looked a good player in that game anyway.

He was a good hard working player for Ireland and was a great foil for Chippy . He had a good career .

You haven’t heard the singing section?

I watched the first couple of minutes there. 1-0 up and it should have been 2-0. Stapleton was cut down in the first attack, think the ref played advantage. The slowness of the pitch, the kit was class alright @Fitzy, go onto the O’Neills website and you can get the next evolution of that kit in either home or away - I got the home jersey as a Christmas present last year.

It was the 80’s. Half the country was on the Dole.

I bought this on your recommendation @Locke. Could have done with a size smaller as it is fairly large fitting.

I got the medium and it fits just right. Was working off of Gaa jerseys I’ve had in the past where the I’d be swimming in an XL
