What was the 9 years with nothing Spock referred to in his interview? Because we reached two European Championships in the 9 years prior to his appointment. It could also be perceived as disrespectful to the players in the squad capped pre-2020 that he felt them coming through was “nothing”. Players like Seamus Coleman and James McClean who broke through around 2012 iirc.
I think Kenny has Ireland playing the ‘best football’ of my time going to the matches which is since around 2007 I’d say. There is a stark contrast between the way the players try to keep the ball now rather than just hoof it from the back like before. They are still absolutely shite and create very very little but it’s relatively ‘good’. It’s probably theoretically what should be done but he doesn’t really know how to do it properly. He also lacks a creative wes holohan Andy Reid type and he might be wrong to try to keep the ball more given the players he actually has but there is no doubt there has been a huge change in what they are trying to do.
The main positive for me about him is he doesn’t try to blame how shit the players are though like all the other managers.
At the end of the day though the only way you seem to be able to overcome not having a great career as a player is by having a massive personality like klopp or mourinho and Kenny sure as shit doesn’t have that. Duff might not be a bad shout.

I took it to mean that we had brought through no players from u17/u21s through to the 1st team for 9 years, through our international underage structure into the 1st team.
I find it hard to believe. But, for example, McClean didn’t come through the Ireland underage system. Edit: Coleman played U21 for Ireland but only after breaking into the Sligo Rovers side a year after they had plucked him from relative obscurity at St. Catherine’s Killybegs

Beat Italy, outplayed the Swedes. Led against the French on their home turf and battled on valiantly with 10 men. It was a very good tournament by our standards. Not to mention the rollercoaster qualifying campaign to get to it.
