One attribute. We donāt have a physically imposing player in a central midfield position and we need one. James McCarthy is never going to be that player. Gibson is eternally injured. What are the alternatives? McGeady / Brady can do the left wing. McClean in a more central position will win ball, has a great engine on him and will run at people. Hoolahan beside him to pick up ball he wins, Whelan behind him to mop up when he loses it. Makes sense to me to at least give him a run there. Iām sure Iām overlooking someone glaringly obvious, so someone tell me who that is.
Incidentally - what is all this shite about the tackle on Milik? Iāve heard all these stupid comparisons to the Keane / Overmars one. Bollocks. It was a 50/50 ball, McLean gets to the ball first, makes contact with the ball, he had every right in the world to challenge for it, it was a superb tackle. Milik didnāt go near the ball, almost stepping out of it at the last minute when he realised what was coming at him.

Is this a wind-up? He canāt pass. Heās a great guy but heās not a central midfielder. Heās a bit like @Bandage in that regard.
Not a wind uP, just thinking aloud, would like to hear the alternatives to McCarthy.
Btw, @Bandage - Coleman made three foul throws in the second half.
7 appearances for Wigan this season and @Fitzy wants him to anchor an international midfield

Stephen Quinn would be the obvious one I guess. If McCarthy played like he did for the last half hour against Poland I would be happy enough to leave him there. He needs a good kick up the hole and he might have got one at HT the other night.
I take it youāre reading that from wikipedia or somewhere. Heās played a lot more than 7 games for Wigan this season, heās played nearly every game I think.
is Hendrick injured?
I like David Meyler.
yes
can conor clifford play in midfield?
Himself and Stephen McPhail are the future
 God damn wiki, duly noted. The one time I do a Zaleya on itā¦
Can someone throw up Eamonn Sweeneyās article from the backpage of todays Sindo please. Aside from his slightly unfair criticism of Jon Walters he pretty much has it bang on
