We beat Estonia and Bosnia in play-offs to qualify for Euro 2012 and 2016.
It’s a pity it’s so far away - we seem to have suddenly found a structure and a squad. Hopefully no bad injuries between now and then
Of course
… i forgot that playoff… won under Trapp…i was at the home game
We’ll have the Swords Express back for the playoffs hopefully. Coleman can’t do 180 minutes in 4 days
The Hungarians haven’t been a nice lot in recent times so serves them right. I am gutted on a personal level though for Ferenc Puskas, Nandor Hidegkuti and Lajos Detari.
The only Hungarian I would like to express my commiserations to is a bus driver on the Dublin to Dunshaughlin route, who I had the pleasure of being on the bus of one Friday evening in March 2003. This bus was standing room only, they were standing in the corridor, well I was definitely standing in the corridor, and this bus was SLOW. But the driver was talking away to the people standing near him in the corridor, nearer than me anyway., as we were stuck in a giant traffic jam. And his conversational skills were a pure delight. By the end I didn’t want to get off the bus. Everybody getting off said an enthusiastic thank you to him. He was, as they say, a CHARACTER. I think his name was Peter.
Commiserations Peter.
It’s a joke of a system, it’s genuinely harder not to qualify from South America.
Is that definitely it?
Scotland are good I think. McGinn and MacTominay in midfield is a worldclass partnership.
Carson in goals is a weak link.
We need North Macedonia to draw or beat the Welsh cunts because we could be in Pot 2 yet
Not yet. 2 possible permutations after Ukraine won earlier.
Craig Gordon? Scott Carson isn’t Scottish.
Aye. The guy who was shite against Greece last night and can’t get playing for Hearts.
JC he’s older than me. Just did a little google
Grant Hanley is shite tbh. Souttar too. Robertson was gash last night too. By time next March rolls around he’ll be wrecked from playing games in all competitions. Momentum is huge in sport. There seems to have been so many sliding doors moments this campaign that you almost feel our passage to USA 26 is preordained.
This team is starting to stick its chest out like Tipp in Croke Park this summer.
We’ve nothing to fear from any of those cunts in the pots in front of us. And absolutely nobody will want to see us coming.
We’re like an unexposed novice chaser being unleashed into open company…
That was magic. Pure magic. A once every 20years moment. What a game. So much in it. So many thoughts to vomit onto the page… The best Kelleher has ever played for ireland. Thought Cullen was superb while he was on. Their first goal was a shitty one to give away but the second was appalling. O shea and collins should be made watch it 50 times. How they closed down your mans shot at 3-2 was how they need to attack shots at all times.
Ogbene is an absolute hero. Hes the man who could defeat those ireland is full cunts. The moment Parrott looked and saw the gap you could see was gonna play it and Ogbene was gonna get on it. His hamstring popping was horrendous. I was sure then it was gone. And the 5 mins before our second goal was absolute chaos, we had gone to shit. Azaz, i wanted him off at half time. And then the sheer impossible beauty of that second goal. Control with his belly and still getting a perfect finish on it. We need ferguson to recover because he has the smarts parrott has. They could be lethal together. So even if ferguson is the impact sub he is a million times better than idah. The last goal was so telling of the difference between idah and a striker. Parrot is moving long before scales heads it. Idah is standing much closer but doesnt even react until after scales has headed it. And giving away about 5 frees from pure laziness cost us. Parrott is a god. If he never played again hed still be one of the greatest irish players of all time on the back of this week.
The joy and togetherness and spirit that win will instill in that group of players will be massive for the play offs. What a day to be irish
I’ll give you McTominay but I don’t rate McGinn. A cycle downhill, wind assisted merchant who’s not averse to putting the boot in when the going gets tough.
A poor man’s Graeme Souness.
