Irelands greatest - Robbie Keane Retires

Ireland’s best??? What are you smoking? We’ve had far better players than him. Paul McGrath for one. Brady no 2. Roy Keane was a better player.

So disagreeing is begrudging?

I didn’t begrudge him a night of it, just felt timing is wrong. More power to him, he has made an awful lot of himself.

They didnt do as much for Ireland though which was my point, barring maybe McGrath

By the lads reckoning Andy Reid was Irelands best player.

We all know it was Stephen Ireland.

I’m in tears here, beautiful

I’d argue that Roy Keane got them to 2002 from a v tough group… Some of his performances were as good as you’ll see anywhere. Robbie has been great but don’t let his longevity blind you .He was often outclassed and kept quiet… You couldn’t say that for the other three.

Its harder to have an influence on a game as a striker than as a midfielder or defender when playing big teams. A striker can’t do much if midfield isn’t doing anything

Whereas Roy Queen regularly feigned injury and tried to undermine management so he didn’t have to play for his country.

Roy Queen was a cunt and one of the most overrated footballers to play the game. He played in the EPL when it was shit and regularly got outclassed in Europe. Vieira destroyed him many times but the his child like fan boys like to get involved in revisionism. Fitting that Ireland performed extremely well without Queen in 2002 and Man Utd had their biggest trophy win during his career when he didn’t even feature in the CL final triumph over Queen.

I think you would have be the worst kind of EPL SKY Sports myth monkey to buy into the Roy Keane hysteria. A wanker and a mediocre footballer.

Dungeon this shit.
The cheek of this cunt. Retiring on all Ireland week. Thankfully only Dinny o brines TODAY FM led with this shit in the sports news before the real sport this weekend.
The other stations know the score.

You are talking to people who regularly show a complete misunderstandinh of sport and what it takes to be great.

Jason McAteer and Robbie Keane were the key players in securing Ireland’s qualification for the 2002 World Cup.

Agreed, not to forget Damien Duff’s MOTM performance against the Dutch and Landsdowne Road.

Off the top of my head, all these players who played with Keane for Ireland had significantly more influential Irish careers than Roy Queen:

Shay Given
Richard Dunne
Jason McAteer
Steve Staunton
Paul McGrath
Damien Duff
Robbie Keane
Niall Quinn
Andy Townsend

I know, god help us… If Roy Keane was a nordie the other fella would defend him to the hilt. He cant leave emotion out of it when talking about anything…

Keane’s performance at home to Portugal in 2001 was just phenomenal, a one man team almost at times. Up there with his performance against Juventus, when he destroyed the Italians almost single handily. His greatness was his ability to drive lesser players around him, like McAteer and Robbie Keane, to perform above their level.

Destroyed the Italians?

Juve made the mistake of putting their feet up and taking it easy thinking they had it won.

United won the Champions League without him

Ireland mixed it with the best at the World Cup without Keane.

Something the angry Cork tinker fanboys don’t want to know about.

As for emotion, I despise Neil Lennon, there is no local emotion in it - Queen was a cunt and an overrated cardboard hardman.

Roy Queen’s performance doesn’t hold a candlestick to Duff’s against Holland you imbeciles.

Here’s what Roma player De Rossi had to say about him - “In my opinion, the legendary Manchester United captain needs no introduction. He’s my all-time idol. Besides Gaia (my daughter, who was born on the 16th), I wear 16 because of him. He’s the only person in the world I’ve asked for a photo, two years ago. I was too embarrassed with Maradona but I couldn’t resist with him.” (http://www.asroma.com/en/news/2016/5/a-cultured-midfielder-inside-the-mind-of-daniele-de-rossi)

Keane is known across Europe as the guy who got destroyed by a binman and mechanic in the Scottish Cup.

This thread was funny for a while with fellas claiming that Robbie is the best player ever to play for Ireland, I wondered where it was going, now it turns out that they either actually believe it :joy: or the Kev baiting has them thinking they believe it.
Fucking hilarious, the best ever :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

True about Juventus slowing . It was criminal the slow up at both OT and Stade Del Alpi . Another thing Man Utd did not win the 1999 European Cup , Bayern threw it away .

The next 5 years were epic chokes passing sidewards and blaming all and siunday . To be fair when he left European success became a possibility again .

Robbie has announced he’s leaving LA, wants one final challenge in club football.

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy any comment?
