Ireland's Greatest Sporting Moment 1962-2012

Starts next week on RTE.

I’ll select my top 10 and compare it against what I think will be picked by the programme as the top 10.

My top 10

1 - Celtic v Inter Milan 1967
2 - Stephen Roche 1987
3 - Eire v England 1988
4 - Spain v Ireland 1982
5 - Kerry v Offaly 1982
6 - Dennis Taylor v Steve Davis 1985
7 - Eire v Italy 1994
8 - Eire v Holland 2001
9 - Dublin v Meath 1991
10 - Down 1960

I’d like to get Ireland’s Cricket World Cup victory over England in 2011 in there too, but you can’t have everything.

What I think will be the top 10

1 - Eire v Romania 1990
2 - Ireland’s rugby Grand Slam 2009
3 - Ireland v England rugby 2007
4 - Munster v Biarritz 2006
5 - Stephen Roche 1987
6 - Ronnie Delany 1956
7 - Katie Taylor 2012
8 - Some horsey race
9 - Kerry v Offaly 1982
10 - Something to do with Henry Shefflin

Some golf tournament might make it into the top 10 actually.

Do you think Gaelic games will even come up for discussion

Irelands Triple Crown 1985 has to make it.

Here’s the PR blurb.

Joe Brolly is involved in one of the programmes, so yes.

Anything before 1962 appears to be ineligible, so goodbye Ronnie Delany.

Jmmy Magee and Tom Humphries could have had a good discussion about Michelle Smith, but alas, it wasn’t to be.

You’re probably not wrong btw.

This could actually be in there

Number 10 wasn’t a vintage SC season . The biggies were poor that year a la 2013 hurling championship .

Not true m8, Rock had future Golman Sachs MD Ireland Hugo MacNeill demolishing Leinster.

Would you ever fuck off for yourself

Dawn Run winning the Gold Cup. Was that 1985?

Seriously sid.
Why The Fuck have you got a British Soccer club playing against an Italian one in a list of Irelands sporting moments?
It’s pathetic to be honest.
I’d give Stephens Roche the nod if he had been clean, so that’s out.

That cheat is a lawyer now I hear?
Appropriate enough I suppose.

Ginger mcloughlin was Irelands finest rugby moment.
Dear me, you don’t even know much about your professed sport.
