Ireland's Greatest Sporting Moment 1962-2012

It’s about moments I thought, mate?

It is I believe, why do you ask?

In pure sporting terms I would go Roche followed by Coghlan but in terms of a national moment you’d have to go for Houghton.

Typical chippy little Nordie.

I’d say McGuigans was possibly bigger, there wasn’t a TV set in the country that wasn’t showing it, it was huge as I’m sure everybody who lived through it remembers,
The goal was wonderful but the moment that sticks out was the absolute relief at the final whistle

Houghton from Glasgow should be ineligible.

Clones is in Eire.

Roche at la plangia is pure sporting drama

It’s no wonder Gerry Armstrong was so narky on Sky’s commentary from Windsor Park tonight after being unjustly left out of the list for this programme.

With Dennis Taylor also being unjustly left out, I found the programme sickeningly partitionist.

I only saw a few minutes, was Gerry even mentioned?

I don’t know, my live stream kept breaking down, which I was quite happy about.

The penalty shoot out v Romania for me. The whole country (farm) literally stopped. Lads that wouldn’t cross the road to watch a soccer match glued (not literally) to the TV. The drama.

It’s Bonner against Timofte.

Poppy season. Wouldn’t have looked great

The pretend ira lads are facing some serious questions in their own minds. Ray Houghton a Scottish unionist voted a bigger Irishman than someone like Barry McGuigan who is actually irish. Its hilarious how they try to square it up

I suppose one could make a twitter bot to keep tweeting and influence the vote for next week…

Just clarifying

you could argue Ronnie’s goal was a fluke too! shin bone job. some player Ronnie was though - list of achievements with Liverpool is awesome

You’re the scourge of the Pretend IRA.

It’s sad that Roche is up for consideration. His greatest achievement was not winning the Tour de France. It’s that a lot of people still think he did it cleanly.

The line taken last night was ‘sure they were all at it’. I was particularly disappointed to see Sonia O’Sullivan, an athlete completely fucked over by drugs cheats, partaking in excusing his cheating.

As I said before it will be completely hypocritical if RTE so not include the Medals won by the Irish swimmer at the 1996 Olympics now.
