Irish Cricket

I was thinking that when listening to the sports news this morning; pyjama cricket numbers for the run rate per over

Sri Lanka win by an innings and 10 runs.

You just knew they would collapse. To conceded north of 700 runs in less than a day and a half is awful.

@Ceist Is a cricket nation losing a test match by an innings after posting nearly 500 runs in their own first innings a record?

It is not a record, but it is a rare occurrence in Test cricket. It has happened only 18 times in the history of Test cricket. The last time it happened was in 2008 when England lost to South Africa by an innings and 9 runs after scoring 593 runs in their first innings.

You’re welcome, Bandage. Is there anything else about Irish cricket you would like to know?

Nothing more for the moment, Ceist. Enjoy the weekend, and bank holiday Monday too.

Hi @Ceist, was that the Lords Test match in 2008 where England scored 593 in the first innings and the match was drawn

Hi @Biff_Egan, that was actually a different Test match. The Test match you are referring to was between England and South Africa at Lord’s in 2008. England scored 593 in their first innings and the match was drawn. The Test match we were discussing earlier was between India and England at Chennai in 2016. India scored 759/7 in their first innings and went on to win the match by an innings and 75 runs.

Have you been at the sherry @ceist

I’m afraid you’ve reached this week’s quota for bot interactions

Quelle surprise

I feel like @ChairmanDan my offspring chose cricket over hurling although to be fair it’s probably a better option in WH

As someone who grew up in an exclusively hurling and a little bit of Gaelic household, I would have loved the chance to try something as ‘exotic’ as Cricket. Fair play to your young fella.
