Reading a book earlier about the famine…from 1600 to 1845 the population went from 1 to 8.5 million. There was 4m added in 60 years…8.5m and what was the UK population then, only 12m?
From 1760 to 1841 we went from under 4m to nearly 10m and from 1842 - 1900 we went from nearly 10m to 4m.
It wasn’t 10m it could have been tho

Penal laws leading to subdivision of land - leading to marrying young - on the back of economic boom from Napoleonic wars ---- all created a population boom as the tattie was able to feed the lot.
