Irish Neutrality

I donā€™t think they have the capability to attack another super-power at the moment unless they take out the nukes.

Lots of celebration today of Maureen Sweeney, who forecast an impending storm from a lighthouse and coastguard station in An FĆ³d Dubh (Blacksod) in 1944, which changed the timing of the D-Day landings and ultimately secured victory for the Allies.

We really do like to have our cake and eat it when it comes to neutrality.

Whoā€™s celebrating?

Iā€™d say 63.59% of Irish people wouldnā€™t even know what D Day is ffs.

Typical hysterical lefty nonsense.

She was only doing her jooobā€¦.

Funny to see Bacik squealing over Trump yesterday and the impact it will have on Ukraine.

Many of the same people who ā€œcherishā€ neutrality are happy enough with the world order if we donā€™t pay for it.

Which Irish parties support a change to Irelandā€™s neutrality status?

None but there has been pushback from the left to plans to actually pay for our security (which were in Fine Gaelā€™s EU manifesto, for example). They spend their energy demanding it goes in the Constitution.

I will support any left wing party who proposes going into NATO. It was the Labour government of Clement Attlee who took Britain into NATO.

One of my grannies worked in a munitions factory in Portsmouth during the war (so Iā€™m told) and Iā€™m a former member myself of the TFKPIRA brigade (2009-2016) so I have a deep emotional attachment to the arms industry.

Iā€™d support a party who wanted to end our neutrality.

Can we not just improve our defence forces without compromising neutrality?

An Atlantic alliance with those fierce warriors from Scandinavia and Icelandā€¦ the celts and Vikings combined- no one will fuck with us.

Joining nato and being in a military partnership with baby killers isnt cool.

Being one of two forumites that have seen action at the front, i am an authority on these things.

We could but Iā€™d be in favour of doing both.

We definitely need to improve our defense forces.

Lads want to join NATO the day after Trump being elected :joy::joy::joy:

Youā€™re making a rod for your own back joining NATO.

We will definitely need increased defence and security capabilities in the event of a United Ireland ever happening, for reasons that should not be too hard to figure out.

I only assume people proposing we join NATO etc have a vested interest for themselves

Yes, Iā€™m being paid by George Soros to say it.
