I saw a plaque today in Adare which is some sort of memorial to the locals who died in āthe great warā. Is there a bigger shower of west brit cunts in Limerick than the Adare crowd?
Thereās one in Limerick city also. And many other towns around the country. A lot of young men fought and died merely to send a few bob home to their destitute familiesā¦
Not to mention a few who thought it might help in Irelandās attempts for Home Rule (as flawed as that may have been). I wouldnāt criticise them, thatās for sure
One mans terrorist is ,
, Redmond and co, ,Iāve no problem with an ex service man wearing one but it galls me to see ordinary Irish folk donning it to fit in
Say the locals mentioned were employees of the estate and probably had no choice but to enlist, at the time big estateās housed, fed and practically owned those living on their land
Big one in Dungarvan
I saw that last week, a massive wall in the shadow of the castle.
I donāt think anybody could have an issue with that really, was there ever a bunch of lads who found themselves on the wrong side of history in such an unfortunate manner, trying to earn a few bob in the worst conditions imaginable only to come home to cruel small mindedness
Apparently up until the early 2000s a few buses used to load up and go North for marching on the 12th of July.
70s definitely- both ways
Yes unfortunately most Irish who went to Flanders from down here were in the same position, wasnāt for King n country, but bread and butter at home, and lots became TOs/ IRA volunteers later on( Tom Barry etc)
Lovely memorial for those from the parish who died in the Great War in Callan
All deathās in whatever war need remembered, not the way the bloody Orangemen do but with dignity, but have no time for plastic paddies who wear the poopy simply to fit on or are anglophiles
The Callan Yeomanry.
John Locke would turn in his grave.
Ah sure Iām only messing. I was always a great fan of Tom Crean. Sure didnāt he take the queens shilling around the same time. He came back a hero, albeit a reluctant one. Sure whatās the difference between him and the Irish men who fought in the Great War?
My great-grandfather went over and fought in the Great War. Came back but died of his wounds from the battle field. My grandfather never knew his father as he wasnāt even one when he passed away.
A lot of young men were taken advantage of to go and fight for the empire and many of them willingly did it. When some of them came home they continued to take the queens shilling and played their part in battering the population into submission. I can accept the argument that many had little choice but to go and earn money to feed their families but I draw the line at those who came back and savagely imposed the law of the empire on their own people.
Plaques like that one in adare are more about normalising brutal law and the savagery of the auxilaries and brirish forces as it has about acknowledging the men who went and fought in their āgreat warā. Personally I would have no truck with that shit and couldnāt give a shit either how destitute they were that they had to do what some of them did to their own people. Yes, there were great men amongst them such as those who stood up in the Connaught Rangers Mutiny but the cunts that came back still in uniform and still took the shilling, fuck the lot of them.
Youre judging them through a 21st century lensā¦ At the time 95% of the population were happy in the union and the Empire.
Was there a happiness index at the time?
