3 centre backs, none of who(m) can pass the ball out from the back. No left footer among them which closes off the option of building down that side as the right footer on the left checks back inside each time. Struggle to get the left wing back on the ball as a result.

Eventually one or two of the midfield three dropped back to try get on it amidst all this square passing by the back three. So we often had 6 or 7 players back in our third but then hardly any options to pass it forward to.

So invariably then a hump from a centre back, right wing back or deep midfielder forward to an isolated Robinson or Curtis with nobody playing off them. Grim.

Itā€™s been the same each time weā€™ve played a back three lately.

Why is he not keen on Alan Browne?

The three Centre backs are so uncomfortable on the ball that all it took was one NI lad to press and then we were panicking and hoofing. If a team genuinely pressed us weā€™d fall apart completely.
To be fair to the Centre backs when the midfield did drop to help all they did was take it off one Centre half and pass it back to another one. Really all they were doing were waiting to see how long they could pass it around before someone pressed and they had to hoof it forward. They played absolutely nothing through the lines.

Coleman & McClean offered nothing in terms of width either. Itā€™s a back three but they are so shit that Oā€™Neill has the two wing backs told not to go too far forward. So itā€™s nearly 5 at the back and no one on the wings. Coleman in particular sits very deep.

Midfield improved slightly once whelan went off (fucking bizarre thing to do giving him a sympathy cap). But Brady is gone way back from where he was in 2016 and Hendrick is unrecognisable. Hard to believe we had two EPL lads in Centre mid last night. Donā€™t think Centre mid suits Brady really. Would have been better on the left and fucking McClean upfront because you may as well have a tall lad upfront if you are going to rain skyball down on their heads. You couldnā€™t be critical of the front two thatā€™s an impossible job. Robbie Keane wouldnā€™t have scored 5 international goals if he played in a team setup like that all the time.
We have absolutely zero creativity at the minute. You couldnā€™t see how that team could possibly score a goal last night.
The worst thing of all is that Northern Ireland are septic as well. Absolutely no cutting edge either. Their best chance came from Lenihan who was very suspect all night.
Oā€™Neills time is well and truly up. They could at least get a competent assistant manager in with him if they donā€™t want to pay Oā€™Neill off. Keane adds absolutely nothing and takes away a lot

Heā€™s been injured for about a year in fairness

I canā€™t believe posters are actually analyzing a football friendly match.
