FAI will simultaneously hire Hughton and Keith Andrews on sequential terms.
He’ll get Didsy back too.
I’m all aboard the Chris Wilder Euro 2024 liaison train. Potentially reminiscent of the calls for Paul Jewell to get the job before Trap in c. 2008-09.
Obligatory
Would be a great appointment but Sheffield United apparently said he looked for 6 million to resign before they parted so I don’t know what kind of money he would look for.
I think he’d be looking for upper Championship or lower Premier League.
Maybe, he was less than a year into a long term extension when they pulled the pin. My assumption that he may not be too cost prohibited is probably due to the fact that he would have been on small enough money most of his managerial career up to that last contract and is now approaching his mid 50s and out of work and may well see a large six figure sum to manage Ireland as an attractive proposition.
I suppose there may be offset clauses in his contract with Sheffield United that if he takes another gig they no longer have to keep paying him which may hinder things.
can all posters please ensure to remember that the salary the FAI will pay will be in the region of 210k before considering potential choices for a future manager…
They were calling for Chris Houghton 6 months ago. Have to move onto someone new now i suppose.
Chris is available again
Houghton’s stock has fallen hugely.
It’s Hughton
He’s talking about Houghton though. Arsey negative commentator.
I had him as my assistant one time on FM. Ray giving the instructions in the Liverpool dressing room before matches.
Paul Jewell’s achievement of finishing 10th with Wigan in 2005/06 was sensational. Both himself and Paul Lambert seemed to decline very rapidly after early highs in their managerial careers.
I’m not fan of Hughton but I would forgive him his spell at Forest. They are a basket case of a club and must have had close to 20 managers including caretakers over the last decade.
Bit like Big Mick in Cyprus, only so much a manager can do
Saw a good point about how people were placing Serbia on too high a pedestal. This is a team who have only qualified for 1 of the last 5 tournaments and lost a play-off to Scotland last year. Even Malta have twice our points tally in their group.
Owen Coyle too.
He was billed as Arsene Wengers successor at Arsenal at one stage. I wonder will Eddie Howe drift into that category over the coming years? He’s currently on track for an Alan Curbishly or David O’ Leary style abstinence from management despite being linked to countless vacancies.
That is Serbia in the past. This Serbian team is a different kettle of fish. Proper manager too.
Have they really though? They had a fine group of players at the World Cup in 2018 too and bowed out in the group stage. That was a poor result for them last week. Could be “darkhorses” vibes akin to Turkey at the Euros.
