The fella who ran off on his wife and kids?

I thought that was Rod Liddle

Cant condone that mate, but I presume he still knows something about goalkeeping

You’d certainly question his judgement

Stating the obvious here but Pico is the best irish born player we have

The useless cunt couldn’t even convince Conor Bradley to play for the south.

I’m not sure that’s got anything to do with his goalkeeping. Try keep your silly footix’ing out of this young man.

Pats had to let the young lad and his sizeable entourage know that Pats are a family club and he needed to move.

Noonan has gotten more under 21 goals than Terry Dixon now anyway.

:notes: his auld lads in the joy :notes:

Kelleher made one notable save last night - the one on one. It was a very good save & it kept the game alive at 2-1. He made a couple of other basic saves in the second half - there was a shot from the left angle of the box that you’d expect any professional keeper to save & a scuffed, trundling shot from the edge of the box where he didn’t move his feet before diving so he was at full stretch to keep the ball out but it was bog standard. Yet Maloney & Kelly started into the “only for Caoimhin Kelleher” stuff. It’s really fucking odd the way they whinge & nitpick about absolutely everything else to do with the team but over praise him to the hilt for performing basic functions adequately.

They cheerlead basic goalkeeping as if it’s a great thing that we are conceding all these chances in the first place

Kelleher is a very good keeper and easily one of our ‘best players’ but him getting motm ahead of manning in particular on Saturday was absolutely ridiculous.
Manning was involved in almost every single good thing we did and looking at him last night it might be the poor cunts one and only chance to get the award!

Kelleher is certainly not the issue, and Bazunu is not the answer.

Yeah it’s unlikely to come to pass but the talk is overly negative. It’s one bad performance. Technically we could win the last 4 games and qualify automatically in first place. 2 wins against Armenia and Hungary (albeit in Budapest) would more than likely guarantee us 2nd place and a play-off. That’s not completely insurmountable.

The negative talk about our squad of players is OTT too. They certainly underperformed last night but it’s a team of Premier League and upper echelon championship players. There isn’t that much of a dearth of quality.

I’d love to see Tony O’ Donoghue’s line of questioning to Stephen Kenny after the near identical defeat to Armenia in 2022. I’d say there wasn’t half as much of an interrogation. At least HH shows some introspection.

It’s little wonder the lads from outside of Dublin have to be so much better to get an opportunity. The Shamrock Rovers contingent on here have a vendetta against anyone who came through elsewhere. If Kweev had spent TY in Ashfield College they’d be lauding him. It’s the same attitude which meant Roy Keane was doing a Fás football course at 19 when he was actually the best young footballer in Ireland.

I met Brian Kerr’s coaching staff in the Stables during his tenure with the underage squad. Asked if I could get a call up to the squad and they sniggered and said I’d need to change my accent first. A definite Jackeen bias is holding us back

He was slow off his line for that one tbh

It’s levels. Collins is a proper international class player where Cullen is doing well to be having the career he is. If Messi played midfield he’d be the best midfielder in the world. If a League of Ireland forward played midfield for a Desmond League team, he’d still be better than any midfielder in that league.

Collins could be better than Cullen or Knight in there because he is a better athlete than them and can do things quicker. Top teams have looked at Collins apparently.

The incumbent midfielders physically can’t get to second balls or breaks or defend transitions because they can’t run.

In GAA parlance. It’s the reason Davy Fitz would play Dessie Hutchinson out around midfield for Waterford. Dessie isn’t a natural midfielder but Davy thinks athleticism and ability to get to the ball first make him a better option out there than a natural but less athletic midfielder.

Or most straightforwardly, all of the midfield options are crap.
