Is shiny happy people better than how soon is now? The REM thread

A questionable influence considering The Bends happened before Hi Fi.

:rofl::rofl: one of them influenced the other

Probably not with the critics but I like it. Funnily enough, I have never listened to any of the IRS albums, bar what I would have hear on the radio.

2 fairly different albums to what came after. For me, In Rainbows is a nice mix of earlyish and later style Radiohead. Kid A is pretty good, but if you are more of a guitar man, then yeah, I can see how you would not like it.

Radiohead were great after they got over their depressed Coldplay early period.

I thought that The Bends was very overrated.

Street Spirit is good. Black Star is good.

But Fake Plastic Trees, Just, My Iron Lung, High and Dry - meh.

absolutely no idea what they were singing about but I loved this collaboration with Stipe and Kristen Hersh

I find myself not listening to the first album at all. Not that I dislike it, maybe it’s a bit dated now?

I don’t think I’ve ever really listened to it as it got such poor reviews.

Pablo Honey was a great album, the Bends was polished, Pablo Honey was raw as fuck

Stop Whispering, Anyone can play guitar were brilliant rock songs

I like The Flowers of Guatemala.

I’ve listened to the album a few times and tbf it’s decent… but it gave me clarity. I’m not so gone on REM’s upbeat stuff (for the most part) it’s just too squeaky clean middle class student rock. But their more sombre stuff is good. They write a good song but not so much music.

Looking back the timing of this banger was brilliant.

After the massive success of the mellow Automatic for the People and to a lesser extent Out of Time, the lads rip up the formula and bring out a massive rocker!

Was it Sidney-Cheasty-Mogwai by any chance?

Reveal - 25th Anniversary Edition reissue to be released on November 20 with The Black Sessions Revealed, a 17-song performance recorded for Radio France in Paris on May 7, 2001.

It’s not an album I’d be celebrating an anniversary of.

I would have thought this was one of their weaker later day albums? Strange that it is getting the special treatment, though the live set looks ok.
Did anyone ever listen to the remix of Monster they released alongside the remaster? Any good?

I haven’t.

Monster is an average album in my view.
