I think that an element of constructive ambiguity was needed to keep the peace process on track. However, should a blind eye be turned forever to large scale organised criminality or murders? Where did these weapons come from? Was decommissioning a lie? How many other weapons are out there? How can SF state so definitively the IRA no longer exists - what connections do they have to be so sure - sure Adams was never even a member. What happens if we have a SF minister for justice or defence - should there be constructive ambiguity still then about the “other” armed force they’ll have links to in addition to the Gardai/defence forces?
