Is Jack Lynch the last T.D to play inter county gaa while in the dail? I’ve no idea if there’s loads of others but I’d appreciate if somebody could tell me.
John Donnellan didn’t let his TD responsibilities for Galway East stop him winning another couple of All-Irelands in the 60s. In fact he didn’t let his TD responsibilities affect many things in his life as he was probably one of the laziest to ever go to Dublin.
Father of Michael Donnellan? He was a tremendous footballer from my vague recollection of the 2001 championship.
He’ll have been gutted he called the wrong son John
Father of Michael and son of Michael, all 3 with All-Ireland medals. 10 All-Ireland medals in total between 5 of them I think, Pat being the other.
Des Foley was a TD when he played for Dublin towards the end of his career. Wasn’t a td the time of the 1961 final but was a FF td in a Lemass govt so there was definitely overlap I’d say
Correct. He won his seat in a by-election after his father dropped dead from a heart attack in the Hogan Stand watching his son captain Galway to beat Kerry in the 1964 All Ireland Football Final.
All three generations of Donnellans won All Ireland with Galway. Possibly the only family in Gaelic football to achieve that feat.
Can’t think of another.
Larkin’s from Kilkenny did it in hurling.
Did none of the generations before or after kick ball?
There was only 3 generations…they came out of no where and disappeared just as quick.
Makes it an even greater achievement you’d have to say.
How long until the next crop are through?
Didnt play in 2001. In fact he retired in the late 1960s
