Or Pelle.
Long linked with Spurs and Liverpool
Long fits the Liverpool model of high intensity and poor finishing very well.
I think he would be a good addition in fairness, all joking aside. Liverpool need to sign players that can play the Klopp way.
I think it’s something relatively simple but too many clubs buy players who are good just cause, with not enough emphasis on whether they fit the system. Benteke is a decent 15 goal a season striker when serviced, but he thrives on crosses and Liverpool don’t play that way.
Torres for me is the prime example, people say he lost form after leaving Liverpool but he went from the counter attacking Liverpool side, where he thrived on the fast breaks, to a high press Chelsea side where they worked through defences, completely different and he was completely unsuited to the role.
Tories had lost form before he left Liverpool.
He was done before the 2010 world cup
Rob Green being linked with Liverpool now
Agreed, Torres was done before he left Liverpool regardless where he went. Injuries cost him a half yard a pace and his confidence plummeted
Long to me is a very frustrating player, his form for Ireland sums him up. He has for the most part been awful when he starts and runs around like a headless chicken or gets into petty running feuds with centre backs who are only happy to niggle him, yet when he gets 20 minutes at the end of games when defenders are tired and the game is stretched he can be very effective. He just can’t seem to combine the two roles.
Steven Hunt and McClean’s impact in an Ireland jersey are similar to Long as well, their directness and attitude are/were great to add some life and make an impact off the bench but when they start they flatter to deceive and are/were easily taken out of the game.
And all 3 have been in the subject of wild adoration, out of keeping with their contributions.
I think Long is clearly the best of those 3 players. He has more nous about him and a pacy striker who’s decent in the air is a good combination. But his finishing is poor and lets him down badly.
What struck me at the weekend was Liverpool’s complete lack of aerial threat (set pieces aside (or maybe not)) with benteke out or the team. Long would definitely improve that and would also contribute to the pressing system. He would lack Benteke’s technique and shooting ability.
In the long term I wouldn’t consider it a good move for the player or the Irish team. He’s a short term solution and will be replaced with perceived better (probably overpriced) alternative sooner rather than later and will end up on the bench or worse for a year and eventually pawned off to Crystal Palace or Watford
Squad no 16 or 90?

King, Billy scored a last minute winner for Sevco against promotion rivals Falkirk at the weekend.
Tony Watt joined Blackburn and scored on his debut at the weekend too.
“You give it everything — it’s what I said earlier about bringing your A game. I hope to do that again tonight, because you don’t want to short change anyone.” - Jim White, Sky Sports News.
This is the worst transfer window ever.
Anyone speculate as to why this window has been so utterly shit?
Very open premier league. Nobodies willing to sell.
You must have had a less fufilled life a few years back when this BskyB bullshit sucked you in, otherwise you miss the dildos.
Which is it?
