What a day. Absolute madness.

First I think selling Torres is actually great business. If he broke down before May his price would have dropped. I cant see how Drogba and himself will work together though.

Suarez I’ve already had my speel on. But Andy Carroll!!! Mike Ashley played that one well. Carroll has impressed me the few times I’ve seen him play this season but it’s ridiculous really. Dont think Liverpool have the midfield to play 442 either so can’t see where the crosses will come from. In the world cup Suarez didn’t play with a big man. He seemed to prefer through balls rather than flick ons. Then there is the issue of giving a temporary manager the proceeds of Torres and Babel rather than a manager the
board had confidence in.

Been a great window for Villa. Bent looks great value considering the sales today. Bradley on loan is promising while let’s hope Makoun gets back to his Lille form. Walker has a lot of potential too. Carew was a good player for the club but his time had come and gone, we took about a 5m loss on Davies. Think he is a good signing for Bham actually. Ireland was a disaster but a pity it didn’t work out. Did Warnock go in the end ?

United needed to sell to survive with Cameron Stewart leaving for Hull on a permanet deal. I havta say I wish Ferguson would splash the cash like his fellow Scott did yesterday. Its painfully obvious that the likes of Gibson and Anderson are pure muck now and it is the worst team of the current United era. Chelsea have sent out a signal they that mean business. 2 games against United and Torres usually gives Vidic and Ferdinand a torrid time. I hope that this proposed Summer clearout happens. It is needed badly at Old Trafford.

Morning after the night before and what a day of transfer drama it was. Sky Sports News have made an industry out of deadline day and it’s become absolutely mental. Conor Sammon completed a move to Wigan late on too. Slightly overshadowed by Torres and Carroll though.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that Liverpool spent £35m on a player who could well be the new Emile Heskey, it now turns out that he was forced into handing in a transfer request and is “gutted” that he had to leave.

Andy Carroll claims he was forced to leave Newcastle for Liverpool

Andy Carroll has claimed he was asked to hand in a transfer request as Liverpool made an improved £35m bid for the striker.

Carroll told the Evening Chronicle that he had been in talks over a new and improved contract at St James’ Park when it became clear he was longer wanted on Tyneside.

“Derek [Llambias, Newcastle’s managing director] asked me to hand in a transfer request, so I was pushed into a corner and had no choice,” Carroll said. "I wasn’t wanted by them and they made it clear they wanted the money.

"Then I flew down in [owner Mike Ashley’s] helicopter. I didn’t want to leave. I’m gutted that I wasn’t wanted at my home team after everything I have done and the progress I have made.

“I didn’t want to leave at all. Make sure they know I didn’t want to leave. The players, staff and fans were fantastic.”

Carroll’s comments back up the content of texts he sent to friend and editor of the Toon Talk fanzine, Steve Wraith, as the transfer saga unfolded last night.

The Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew, denied the claims, insisting Carroll decided to leave after asking for a new deal, which was not forthcoming. “We didn’t force anybody to leave,” Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

“I disagree with that point. He had a contract here for five years, and at some point it would get renewed, but for him to sign in October and it get renewed in January – where would it stop?”

I have always thought Keane was a talented player but Id argue he could have achieved more in the club game particularly if he had worked on as said before glaring limitations on his game - heading for one. While his goal scoring record for Ireland is to be applauded the team has been built around him since he came into the side. He always had a big man up front next to him. John Aldridge a far better player imo was sent off chasing shadows under Charlton. Alexander Frei also has a superb record for Switzerland but I dont think anyone would claim he was anything special. Stapleton was before my time but I dont think he had the benefit of numerous friendly matches nor the Andorras of this world to pad out his scoring record.

Word coming out of Chelsea is that Torres will be available for €20M in the transfer window. Where now? I’d love to see him go back to Liverpool, can imagine there’d have to be a lot of necks wound back in from this time 12 months ago. Wasn’t there a poster here who said Suarez was bought to partner Torres after all?

He just need to go to another long ball club like Liverpool.
