I think it will be more of the same. A lot of lads are jumping around the place hoping for a team of teenagers next year but that just won’t happen given the step up in S&C.
Hoggy and Harnedy will be the first names on the starting 15, and they should be if they’re on form.
In terms of changes from this year I’d fancy Eoin Downey to make a place his own in the backs, Alan Connolly will be back on the edge of the square and Mark Coleman will be back at either half back or midfield - we lacked a teenie bit of craft in the middle third at times this year and he will be a super boost there. Mícheál Mullins could have a cut at a few minutes from the bench all going well for him.
There was an advantage being played and I think Daithi Burke stopped playing for a split second thinking the whistle would go when the shot was dropping short.
The worst at least since his assist for Cillian Buckley.
I’d like to see those two assists being combined into a single meme followed by Mannion doing a Sideshow Bob style shudder. It’s important to laugh at one’s self in the manner of a good sport on Beadle’s About.
I doubt many of us know what it takes to be a successful inter-county manager and you can safely say that the squad available to Henry has not been near as strong as previous years but from the outside it looks like he has put his heart and soul into the team in his term so far.
The reality is that this Limerick team is immensely talented and there is very little shame in putting it up to them for a large portion of the game and coming up short. I won’t be surprised if they beat Kilkenny by a similar margin or more next week and they only reason why KK might get closer is out of pure ignorant stubbornness which is just part of their make-up.
Gillane isn’t a dazzling hurler by ultimate ATG standards, but physically he is ridiculous. He literally invites contact. If Eoin Kelly had Gillane’s physical, you’d be talking Christy Ring.
Gillane and Flanagan have basically made a new formation in hurling.
He is going to destroy Lawlor and seal his place as the forward of the decade. That’s what should happen. He isn’t brilliant but unbelievably effective. Fumbled first few balls v Clare, didn’t matter a jot.
There’s a template there at least. For a while that Galway team were playing the hurling of their lives. Shefflin has to figure out can he turn that 30 minutes against Limerick into 70.
Coleman was a huge loss, as was Robbie O’Flynn, Connolly is still relatively unproven, despite his amazing goal scoring record he was in and out of games, I hope he lives up to it.
Agreed that Harnedy and Horgan have plenty to give, they’re not far away at all,
Very hard to do both. If you play ‘sweeper’ in front of him, its takes a body from middle third, increasing the probability of good ball into him. When that happens, it kind of makes sweeper redundant as Gillane will gain possession.
You are better off going man on man and disrupting the quality ball coming in. That requires a huge effort (obviously) but its the best tactic imho.
