Itāll be very hard to stomach watching New Zealand v Argentina on Friday night. Iāve seen and heard quite a few people saying this defeat is easier to take because we fought to the bitter end but in my opinion itās much more of a sickener than 2019. In 2019 I was resigned to more than likely losing a quarter-final as soon as Japan turned us over.
The team in 2019 was gone to shite and thereās nothing to be wondering about. This time pretty much everything had come together and all the boxes ticked, it was a winnable game, they could have won it, and they didnāt.
Looks like heās the new head coach of the Cadbury Wallabies. The 2025 British Lions tour just got a lot more interesting.
Could hardly have got less interesting.
The British Lions tour is the greatest show on earth.
Donāt think it a wise decision for wallabies. His conservative style and fact heās kiwi will do little to draw numbers back following them
He doesnāt really have one though. He changed it for Ireland because at the time that is how he thought that Ireland could win.
The problem was that when things turned that there wasnāt a hope he could shift. His approach made that difficult.
Peak Leinstertainment (other than the Knox era) was under him.
Bring back in NZ will have helped him.
Itās a great appointment.
And what convinces you he can now?
Rubby needs Joe to bring the Wallabies back to the top table
He basically coached NZ to the final there playing good rugby.
What happened with Ireland was that he flipped the script from Leinster as that is how he thought he could win. That said, Ireland played some very nice rugby vs. the All Blacks generally when we played them and beat them in shootouts.
The problem really was that it all worked a treat to 2019. Then the squad and tactics went through a malaise. I donāt think Schmidt could shift a team he had been drilling for 6 years to play with such discipline, because he his style is so exacting (even when playing lovely rugby). He would have basically had to have ignored how he had coached.
For 3-4 years with the Wallabies, this is a great appointment. Heāll get their win % right up. Heāll also beat the All Blacks on occasion.
Agree
Coach Schmidt will have the Wallabies purring.
Heāll go the way of Dingo Deans.
Wonder does that also put him out of the running of ever getting the top job in NZ?
If he takes the very conservative and overly prescriptive approach he did with Ireland the Australian players will down tools straight away. But if he goes with an attacking style like he did with Leinster he might get on very well.
Great appointment. Heās a brilliant coach.
