IRISH FOOTBALL HAS been given a âŹ1.2 million boost in funding, the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, announced today.
The funding will go towards six projects selected by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) â Mayfield Football Club, Cork; Galway Football Association; Munster Football Association; Clones Town FC; Westport United FC and Kerry District League â each of which will each receive âŹ200,000.
Commenting on todayâs announcement, Minister Ring said: âSince coming to office, I have made a special allocation each year to specific sporting disciplines. They have included rugby, boxing, athletics and swimming pools. I am now pleased to be able to allocate âŹ1.2 million in funding for soccer projects which have been identified by the FAI as being âdeserving of a once off special allocationâ from my Departmentâ.
âThese projects have been acknowledged as being âstrategically crucial to the development of football, not only within their locality but at regional and national levelâ. The money will be used to update, refurbish and complete facilities and will have a significant impact not only on the players and management who use them but also on the fans who support them.â
The FAI, meanwhile, welcomed the news, with Chief Executive John Delaney commenting:
âMinister Ringâs âŹ1.2m grant is a very welcome and generous boost for Irish football, which will provide facilities for players in communities across the country. The SSE Airtricity League ground developments for Cork City and Galway FC join other projects completed at league grounds in recent years. The grant will also allow us to complete strategically important projects at club and league grounds in Cork, Mayo, Kerry and Monaghan, all of which are due for completion in 2015.â[/QUOTE]
I wonder how mayfield swung that?
Some coincidence that Minister rings native Westport got an allocation too.
Whatâs the Mayfield connection?
Roy Keane?
Lovely footage on You Tube of Mr Delaney honouring IRA hunger striker Joe McDonnell in song in The Bath pub after Ireland-USA last midweek. What a great guy.
He has a beautiful singing voice, has to be really heard live to be appreciated
On Youtube and the post directly above yours

As a sing song aficionado what do you make of that song?
I find it a bit slow and drawn out unless itâs a right good singer singing it.

itâs a great song but too long winded for a sing song. Fathers Blessing is the best Joe McDonnell song though
I gave a rousing rendition of The Legend on Saturday night in Nottingham
@Horsebox has been constantly slagging off The Bath on the Grand canal dock thread, time for him to apologise.
That cunt frequenting that cunthole only strengthens my case, pal.
I wouldnât have had you down for a SoCoDu knobend, SR. What gives?
Mr Delaney has made the front page of Tuesdayâs papers for his singing exploits.
