John Higgins facing two-day hearing over snooker match-fixing claims

A somewhat alternative take on the evidence here:

Best of luck, John.

+1, John Higgins is a gentleman and a true alright sort.

It looks grim enough for him but NoTW are masters at entrapment and that article raises doubts as to the integrity of the evidence. I’m not sure it’s a great sign that his peers have been fairly silent on the matter; there’s been no clamour of players rushing to publicly support or defend him. It will be very interesting how this one plays out.

The first article they did on the subject was very good too.

I think Higgins has a case to answer but they’ve definitely manipulated their video (and the subtitling) to make the offence seem worse. It may be that Higgins did nothing worse than speak about how one might lose a frame in theory and only then it was just to answer questions from guys he was fearful of.

Exactly. If the NOTW were footing the bill for this entire lavish trip to Kiev then they probably were going to produce their story one way or another.

The Wizard of Wishaw has admitted to match fixing

Oh John, John, John…

Bandage and Sid will be devastated.

EDIT - Higgins representative is denying that the player and manager have admitted to match fixing

What’s going on here? Conflicting posts above.

He has declared himself innocent. More gutter journalism from dancingbaby.

A spokesman for John has now said that he is maintaining his innocence.

I am glad I at least checked it before taking thedancingbaby at his word. I would like to apologise to John for any stress I may have caused with my initial post, also to sid and bandage.

thedancingbaby = not to be trusted.

My heart skipped a few beats. I’ve got an awful lot of time and respect for John Higgins.

Apparently a box of matches fell on the ground and a couple of them broke.

John was asked had he fixed the matches and he replied in the positive.

Some reporters just caught the end of the episode and got carried away.

Easy mistake to make.

SKY have removed the initial article on their website. I imagine some fella had to furiously amend the yellow ticker also. All go in SKY Towers today I’d say.

Higgins’ defence remains the same - he did say what he is caught on camera saying, but only because he was intimidated

Ob-la-di ob-la-da

SKY obviously heard something earlier but shit themselves when Higgins rep came out so strongly. There may be something to this.

Sky News bastards felon setting again.

BOOM.

And you’re done.
