Josip Simunic - thoroughly decent sort

Who the fuck do these people think they are trying to condemn this man?
As long as we have brits managing and lining out for the irish side this type of passion is only something we can dream about
Places like Croatia and Bosnia and their fans deserve WC qualification, we on the other hand have fellas playing rugby football,

+1

The Irish management team don poppies commemorating an armed force who terrorised and occupy its lands. It’s in stark contract to overzealous nationalism displayed by the Balkan countries. One of my favourite stories last season was Kolarov getting into a scuffle with a fan who was holding an Albanian flag. These lads defend and represent their nation with pride and passion, unlike the meek idiots who line out for Ireland. O’Kneel and Queen will no doubt be trying to censor James McClean’s views.

Yeah, Kolarov always seems a decent sort,
Siniša Mihajlović the Serbian football manager was also a personal friend of Arkan, now whilst I cant really say that everything Arkan did was ok (cooking babies in captured Bosnian moslem villages in an oven for example in an attempt to ethnically clense the area), one cannot fault the national pride of the Serbs and in the long run, even tho they have fallen on tougher times now this will help propel the team forward

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/mar/21/sinisa-mihajlovic-serbia-croatia
"A week later Zvezda played Hajduk Split in the Yugoslav cup final. Hajduk won 1-0 but the game was at least as notable for the clash between Mihajlovic and Igor Stimac, now the coach of Croatia. “In one moment we were face to face,” Mihajlovic later revealed. “He leaned to me and said, his voice full of hatred, ‘I pray to God your whole family in Borovo gets murdered!’ At that moment I could have killed him with my teeth…” Mihajlovic made a series of bad fouls on Stimac and in the end both were sent off. Stimac and he have been sworn enemies ever since. “Here is a man who spread lies about me, such as that I was gay; he also said he could strangle me with his bare hands,” Stimac said. “But his mother is Croatian, his wife Italian, he married and baptised his children in a Catholic [as opposed to Serb Orthodox] church. I realise he has to try twice as hard as anyone else there to prove his allegiance to Serbia – but they will never accept him, no matter how much he carries Arkan’s picture around.”

Mihajlovic is no longer Serbia manager. He took the Sampdoria job the other day. Did he quit or was he fired by Serbia? Can anybody confirm?

Too true, Cork Nazi loving Jews have always perplexed me also.

What’s well-known Serbian Nationalist TWCB’s opinion of Simunic, I wonder?

He is a yugoslavian mate

“always”?

knowing him as i do, whilst he will hate his political beliefs he will no doubt respect the pride Simunic has in his country

couldnt have put it better myself

Yes, for as long as I’ve lived any I’ve come across have been perplexing.

where would you come accross these type of people?

I’ve come across surprisingly few so far, a 100% record in fact of being perplexed.

Banned for 10 games by FIFA and will miss the World Cup.:smiley:

Outrageous decision. Even if you don’t disagree with the lad, FIFA can’t cherry pick their politics.

Disgusting, there is nothing wrong with overt nationalism.

a sad day for football and society in general.
