Key 2007 Wexford Inter-County Championship Fixtures

I heard Stephen Doyle had a set back. True or false? Not related to his collar bone but ankle or something.

I hadnt heard that Bandage but havent been in Wexford for a couple of weeks now so cant be too sure. that would be disapointing. I was however told that Oulart were missing four players at the weekend when they destroyed the rapps, so he could well have been one of the four?!

Where do you think we could make best use out of stephen Nolan?! He was centre-forward on Lucey last night.

Just checked the Wexford People. He played for Oulart in the championship at the weekend so he must be alright. We have no injury worries after these games.

Not convinced on Stephen Nolan yet stevie G. Needs to add a lot more consistency to his game and he strikes me (I could be wrong) as a lad who’s more into his own performance than the team’s. In other words he’s happy as long as he gets a few scores and as a result often takes the wrong/selfish option in possession. Would like to see a better team ethic in his play - hopefully it’ll come.

Would have to agree with you 100% on that one. the frustrating thing is he has the potential to be a huge asset given his ball winning ability.

PJ Banville will miss the June 3rd Leinster SFC quarter final.

ankle injury picked up playing soccer apparently according to the report.

big blow as he is a very dangerous forward.

Not sure about Banville. He destroyed Peadar Andrews in Croker in 2005 and got 1-2 that day but he hasn’t really progressed since then. We need the other forwards to take the heat off Forde and I think they’re capable of doing so. Ciarn Lyng is a great addition after giving up his football career in England and there’s also Deely and Red Barry so confident enough about our chances.

Was Andrews in the corner that day? If so it’s not much of an achievement - he was always a liability back there.

O’Shaughnessy was in the corner but broke his collar bone early on and Andrews came on and got skinned…again.

Ah right. He has no sense of how to play corner back does Andrews - he used to get caught out so often it was unreal.

Corner back is an exeptionally difficult place to play. Nice line in B S there re the match in Tipp last night. Rumours and half truths, can’t beat it.

especially if you happen to be a big slow awkward fook…

From hoganstand.com:

Wexfords long wait goes on

'Wexford manager Paul Bealin has been left fuming by the decision to defer his sides Leinster SFC opener until June 17.

The Slaneysiders were due to open their championship campaign at Croke Park on Sunday, but this wasnt possible because of the second replay between Louth and Wicklow. Bealin argued that Wexford shouldnt be made wait any longer than June 10 to play to play the winners, but the Leinster Council last night agreed to give them a fortnights rest. Thats assuming, of course, that theres a winner of Sundays third instalment at Croke Park.

Its understood that if Louth win theyll face Wexford at Parnell Park, while Dr Cullen Park will host the quarter-final tie if Wicklow progress.

Prior to Tuesday nights decision, Bealin had stated it would be a disgrace if the quarter-final was pushed back to June 17, and now his worst fears have been realised.

In addition, the Leinster semi-final involving the winners of Louth / Wicklow / Wexford v winners Laois / Longford is postponed to Sunday 1st July 2007 and will be played in conjunction with the Leinster Hurling Finals in Croke Park.’

I would have been incredibly annoyed about this but for the fact the football semi final, providing we beat Louth/Micklow of course, has been moved back a week to coincide with the Leinster Hurling Final so that’ll be a nice double header, assuming we beat Dublin in the hurling too obviously. Lots of assumptions here which is always dangerous as you should never assume anything.

After being forced to play 3 games in 13 days last year because Offaly couldn’t count their substitutes it would have been unfair if we were expected to play Laois/Longford the week immediately after the quarter match considering they’re playing this Saturday night and will have 3 weeks off.

Think Mattie still isn’t 100% so maybe it might be a blessing in disguise giving him 2 extra weeks that we didn’t have this time last week. Equally though I don’t think the GAA realise the disruption this causes to a team’s preparations. We played (what were meant to be) our last challenge games in the last 7-10 days against Carlow and Offaly in preparation for this Sunday. The whole training programme would have been geared to peak for June 3 and then we’re told we actually don’t get to play until June 17. Do you arrange some late challenge games now or what? It could prove difficult to keep things ticking over with just training sesssions. With the week rest after Sunday and the 3 previous games they’ve played whoever wins the 2nd replay on Sunday will be far sharper than us.

Heard that Wexford were muck in a challenge against Sligo last weekend. They had pretty much a full strength team out as well (as in Forde was playing) and apparently Sligo beat them comfortably.
