I have memories of him having a blinder in all Ireland final , think he moved in fullback , cork 1992 ? It was like a game of tennis with him and a young Brian Corcoran at the other end
He was centre back in 92. Same in 93 when he was even better in the final but the Sunday Game in their wisdom gave motm to Padraig Kelly because he cleared a few balls in space in the second half.

He could hit a 65 when there was no one near him, but with anyone around him he couldnt hit it 40 yards.

Pat O’Neill was highly regarded as a hurler throughout his career, unbelievably wristy for such a hape of a man, not unlike David Buggy who was a supreme stickman but even hape-ier than Nail.
Nail’s poor wintering tactics were his main issue.

@Piles_Hussain is the ying to my yang, a great man with the facts whilst I’m all about the big picture. Plus I had found drink around then and would have been roaring “ABOUY NAILER BOUY” from a shit vantage point on the Canal End. I’ve a couple of years on Piles, he’d have been sober.
Not quite sober for the 92 and 93 finals, there were cans snuck in on the way up and in the vicinity before taking the council signs through the gate.

Jesus never realised Waterford were at such a low ebb. Was aware they lost to Kerry in 1992 alright. Who would they have played in division 3? Roscommon, Wicklow, Derry type teams?
Lost to Kerry in 93. We were in Division 3 in 1985. We lost to Mayo but managed to get promoted back up. Roscommon weren’t bad at the time and I think they were in an eight team division 2.

We played Kildare, Derry, Louth, Wicklow, Mayo, Armagh and Carlow in Division 3.
