I was asked to umpire and help out at a tournament in Manchester what must have been about six years ago now. New York had been due to fly to Ireland for a minor tournament and couldn’t because of some travel issue, and played against Lancashire, London and someone else in a blitz. They’d raised the money to fly, and so this was hastily arranged. I felt sorry for them stuck in Hough end, but they were decent. Their manager was a sound lad. All homegrown lads then. I’d say a few must have played yesterday. Fit and strong they were. Decent side. Same gansai near enough.
I’m wondering could it have been around the foot and mouth time. Something stopped them travelling to Ireland anyway.
That Kilkenny lad in the photo was a lot fitter than he looked there, and a decent and commited player.

Not the case. London played a homegrown team excluding lads that played senior. New York played a homegrown team including 4 atarters against Sligo in the championship. Rule chsnge was sought and given the week before the matches

NY win by a point. Similar scenes to those in the same corner at the end of the LHF but we couldn’t pull it out of the fire this time.
