not that im an admirer of football or anything but its blatantly unfair for any county to invest heavily in one code and not bother with the other. fine if you are useless at both thats understandable but to favour one is a big advantage if you are the only county doing it.
i propose that any county wishing to compete in the Liam McCarthy must finish in the top 30 places in the previous years football league and the same for the Sam Maguire
Something untoward has happened here, of that I’m sure. It is simply inconceivable that 15 able bodied young lads would concede this score and not be able to score a single point. It would me more understandable in hurling where if 15 guys who had never played before wouldn’t be able to rise or puck the ball but surely everyone who plays any field sport can catch and kick a football.
Agree rating. There is no skill required to play Gaelic football. Just need to be big, strong and ignorant.
Well they have them sort of lads
I understand that the bookies are refusing to pay out on the 70 point handicap.
Could you not have gotten the one of him with the sleeves taped as well? Incidentally him and his cousin are the reason the players charter in laois now forbids the following
taped sleeves
white ankle socks
cut off collars
cut sleeves
And a few others I cant recall right now
And you can leave Hugh Emerson alone you fucking cunt of a man. You ever say anything bad against him and I will take pleasure in gutting you boy.
Haha, stage 4 rattled.
I knew Hughie well back in the day, he won’t mind the bit of slagging.
Eh, no you won’t
Not sure if this was put up or not, good article about what happened on Saturday with the minors and the wider discussion of how football is perceived in KK.
By all accounts this is a shocking scoreline and shouldn’t be
happening, yet it was treated as some type of joke by many people who
rushed to come up with the ‘funniest’ comment.
The Kilkenny minor footballers took to the field on Saturday
afternoon knowing that there was a good chance that it wasn’t going to
go well for them but they still put on their jersey and played the game.
That took bravery and guts and a lot more bravery that it takes to write a stupid and not even funny or original tweet.
What people seem to forget is that these are a bunch are 17/18 year
old boys who are obviously interested in football and want to play for
their county.
Many of them returned to school on Monday after a weekend of reading
these silly and thoughtless comments online. People need to remember
this before they rush to post something online.
All things considered, this wasn’t and isn’t a joke.
The tokenism shown to football in Kilkenny is shameful and needs
to be addressed. Nobody is asking Kilkenny to give up hurling and
concentrate on football but nobody should have to deal with such blatant
disregard for one of our national games – not the minor hurlers in Wicklow or the minor footballers in Kilkenny.
As if this situation could not possibly be made any worse, Nickey
Brennan’s comments prior to the game were ill-timed and poorly phrased
to say the least. The former president of the GAA claimed that Kilkenny
are at an advantage compared to other counties as they do not fund a
senior football team, saving them an estimated €120,000 per annum.
This basically advocates the financial prioritisation of one code
over another and was insensitive considering the fact that his fellow
county men were about to take to the field against Wexford.
Perhaps this funding is an issue that should be looked into more
stringently to assess whether adequate investment is being made in
relation to both codes. If Kilkenny are committed to putting a team into
the Leinster minor championship and similarly with Wicklow and the
minor hurling, then these teams deserve to be prepared.
The Kilkenny county chairman publicly apologised to the minor
footballers on Monday and while it was the right thing to do, action
must follow these words.
People will undoubtedly say that there is little appetite for
football in Kilkenny and perhaps they are right but at the end of the
day, fifteen schoolboys declared an interest in playing football for
their county and were sent out to play a game where there was only
really ever going to be one outcome.
Perhaps the county board felt that they were damned if they do and
damned if they don’t in this scenario. Not entering a team left them
open to accusations of disregard for football in the county, entering a
team that were not ready for this level of football has left them even
more open to criticism.
Teams will be beaten and teams will be beaten heavily but this is
unfortunately the norm with Kilkenny football and the reason why it
seems to have struck such a chord with people is the issue of the age
grade of the game. Young lads this age should not be the scapegoats of a
broken system.
This isn’t an isolated issue in Kilkenny or Wicklow either. There are
many counties who are pushing one sport to the detriment of another.
Development grants from the GAA can only do so much in these cases as
for many counties; it’s an issue of attitude.
Perhaps independent development officers need to assess the work and
investment that certain counties are giving to certain codes. If these
counties are putting teams into competitions, then they are declaring an
interest in that sport and the preparation should be adequate in order
to allow these teams to compete.
Getting beaten doesn’t mean that work isn’t being done but these
results over the last week surely highlight that something is seriously
wrong and it’s no laughing matter.

Yes. There is no way anyone can be that bad at Football. It is simply impossible, It just can not happen. 15 amputees with Down’s Syndrome would have scored a few points.
The cunts are pulling some kind of stunt,

To get a score like that either Kilkenny didn’t have a full team on the pitch and played with whatever number they had against 15 or Kilkenny didn’t turn up and Wexford submitted a makey uppy score in agreement with Kilkenny and officials so Kilkenny wouldn’t be fined?
Just as a clarification on @count_of_monte_crist noting that Kilkenny did indeed score a point, he is correct on this and the media reports on the no score is incorrect. They got a free in injury time with nearly the last kick of the game where they scored a point.
So they submitted a score that would draw a lot of attention to the game as some form of reverse ball hop?
They were being ironic.
Waterford SHC Semi Final 1949.
Mount Sion 22-12
Erin’s Own 0-0
Apparently the Kilkenny goalie took over 100 kick outs in that match.
Good fuck. The leg must have been falling off him.
Amazing that there was no Ray Cummins type figure on the Wexford team to start hand passing the ball over the bar.
