Kilkenny Hurling

Didn’t ballyhale nearly lose the mullens few years back?

Yea you’re right. I should have said Bill Hennessy from Tullaroan. His grandmother is a Hennessy.

I always mixed up Bill Hennessy and Jamesie Brennan, and am still doing it 30 years later.

His uncle, also John, was as tasty a hurler as we had growing up around Thomastown back in the days. He never made the county team though. Thomastown were poor back then.

Dropped for a co u21 final because they went on the piss at Mick Fennelly’s wedding

Tough love works.

Brendan Fennelly, RIP

Desperately sad news. Not a surprise but still just awful. He is the first of Ballyhale’s inaugural 1978 team to go. A terrific hurler and absolutely brilliant in the 1981 Club AIF, his finest hour.

Brendan was one of the people I most enjoyed and admired in hurling. The Bomber could cut anyone in two but this trait was part of his singularity. He did not suffer fools and I never minded that aspect.

Sincere condolences, and more, to the two families.

Was Shane Hennessy anything to Bill? They had some underage team back in my day

I’d say cousins but I’d be guessing.

Uncle/nephew

Amazing that tulloran team never did anything at senior level.

They won it out one year in the 90s, no? Will go check there
Edit: won it in 1994. During the last recession of AIs we were in before this one

No way? Had he been sick? He was over Mount Leinster Rangers last few years. RIP

Good grief. So he was. A very nice man.

Managing Laois takes its toll on any man.

RIP.

He managed Dunamaggin as well to win their one and only county championship. Brother Kevin was over Gowran in that final in 1997.

First cousins I’m reliably informed.

Any chance you could throw up a pic of the Fenians team.

That’s gas, Ballyhale surnames are all still the same on those successful teams since 2006-
