Killarney

Quick bit of advice. A friend is hoping to get married in killarney (my PA)
She’s an English lass but she loves it there. She’s hoping to get married in a hotel in the town, but was asking me if I knew of any pubs within striking distance, with a lake or sea view, that they could maybe book for the next day. Likely to be 100-200 stragglers she reckons.
She looked at the Europa for the wedding but found it a bit clinical and has found a place in town.
She’s hoping for November/December next year.
She is ultra hot fwiw.
I said I’d enquire here on her behalf.

There are no pubs in Killarney with a lake or a sea view. There are a few hotels on the lake alright

The Europe? You must pay her too fucking well

Killarney, IMO, is poorly served for pubs relative to hotels in resteraunts.

Few decent boozer that might cater for that many
Charlie Foleys New St ( I think)
O Connors (high St, proper killarney local. Would be called a dive bar in NYC)
Scott’s hotel has a bar open out onto a pedestrian street always live music there. Don’t particularly like it myself but it’s busy spot

Main piece of advice anyways, avoid McSorleys

Load of foreigners might enjoy Kate Kearney cottage? Haven’t been there in years though don’t know is it more a food spot now. Bit out of town mind you

Jarveys

I was there very recently. It wouldn’t be fit to accommodate a group of 20 IMO, let alone a wedding party. The food was above average but at tourist prices, but the service was utterly deplorable which was a surprise. They’re just coasting.

FFS. It hasn’t a view of anything bar a few trees

The Malton Killarney meant to be a popular wedding venue and meant to be good.

I think it may also be closed “for the season”

She’s looking for somewhere for the day after, she’s the venue sorted

At Muckross Park hotel? Bar is an utter shithole IMO. Nice hotel alright.

Hotel: Lake hotel - Beautiful views, old Irish style decor
Pub: Courtneys - best pint in town.
Restaurant: Mareenas

She’d be as well now to stop acting the shite and fuck off down to Parknasilla for the weekend. Grand pub down the road in Sneem for the following day.

I take my role as the forums resident expert on Killarney very seriously

My older lad rates a week in Killarney as “his best ever holiday”.

The funfair every evening was probably the determinator.

As a destination I wouldn’t rate Killarney too highly personally. Expensive hotels, a lot of twee pubs playing up on their Orishness and not a whole pile to do in the town itself outside of eating and drinking. But it’s a great spot as a base to explore the surrounding areas.
Kenmare is similar but a bit less Yanky. I’d prefer it to KIllarney personally especially in the summer, be very quiet in the winter though.

Foreigners love Kilarney though, they love the faux Irishness and the twee settings, its more how the picture the country to be in their minds eye before arriving.

Down around Sneem is where its at. Few nice pubs to drink in at night, theres a chipper, and theres one of those old style shops as well where they sell everything like brown soda bread, turnips, purple snack bars, buckets of paint, hammers etc. Your man this old geezer puts everything in a book if youre a local and i suppose they settle up fortnightly or whatever. Theres a few cafes and places to eat too. There’s an unreal beach down there but the name escapes, best beach ive ever been at in Oireland.
