King Henry of Galway (Part 1) 👑

Because the exact same thing happened them last year and they’ve learned nothing from it?

New management etc. They need to learn it first hand. Their match ups in defence worked perfectly in the first half but they were badly exposed when they followed their men in the second half after kk made a few changes, surely won’t make that mistake again for example.

But why didn’t they rectify the mistake when they saw it yesterday?

I don’t know, they didn’t see it? But they should be on notice to watch for it next time surely.

The answer to your question lies in the rest of your post. Scope for improvement? Afraid not. Very limited in key areas. When the answer is to bring on a 34 year old, or saying we need Tan back, that sums it up nicely.

Yeah scope for improvement. Some players didn’t perform to the levels they’re capable of and should improve. They could get Flynn on the field from the start for example. Cooney hasn’t had a lot of hurling and will improve. They should have learned a lot on the positioning of their backs but still they had some encouraging performances there. What does a player’s age matter if they perform? Maybe Tannian is past it but I expect he is still up to it and if so he should play.

Agreed. I thought they played well, the newish lads all showed. I was proud of them anyway.

Ger Lough has not held back today… :open_mouth:

Ger Loughnane has accused Galway’s hurlers of having ‘no guts whatsoever’ in the wake of their latest defeat to Kilkenny.

Loughane has little sympathy for the Tribesmen who ousted Anthony Cunningham as manager just weeks after guiding them to last year’s All-Ireland final, and tears into them in his Irish Daily Star column today:

“After the stance they took against Anthony Cunningham, this was the day when Galway had to stand up and be counted,” writes the Feakle man, who managed Galway between 2006 and 2008.

"Otherwise, they’d rightly be regarded as a laughing stock. This defeat showed they are made of absolutely nothing. You can forget about this Galway team - they have no guts whatsoever!

"Galway are always looking for a crutch. There’s always someone or something to blame. The manager, the trainer, the physio, the length of the grass on the training pitch, the weather…

"After pushing Cunningham out the door, the crutch was kicked away from the Galway players. they had to stand up for themselves. No-one would listen if they played the blame game again.

"Galway had a very aggressive manager on the sideline in Cunningham who was prepared to take on Brian Cody. Now they have a manager who reminds me of the Dermot Morgan character ‘Fr Trendy’ from RTE in the 1980s.

“Micheal Donoghue comes across as an amiable curate coming into a new parish - and they’re expecting to win with him? Compare Donoghue’s body language on the sideline with that of Cody. You don’t need to be a genius to work out who’s king of the jungle.”

Loughnane added: "If people only knew the inside story of how the coup against Cunningham was organised… it was a farce from beginning to end.

“The day came when the Galway mutineers had to stand up. What happened? The usual Galway story. They collapsed.”

Jesus he didnt spare Donoghue there, Fr Trendy? An amiable curate? Fuck.

:joy:

Lovely. I can’t wait until he write Teege’s/Davy’s obituary next Monday.

Loughnane

That’s exactly what they need. A good dose of the truth.

Hopefully they’ll gather the courage to ram it down his throat later in the year.

I’m warming to gerlocklear. There is method to his madness.

:joy:

Did Donoghue ride his daughter or something? Fucking hell.

Loughnane’s bitterness for Galway after he failed miserably as manager there hasn’t faded yet. The fuck did Donoghue do to him??

He’s just adding some fuel to the fire.

Loughnane is box office.

Galway started really well. They are a big team and seem to run out of steam. Wonder if argument to do a Dublin football and look to finish with their stronger players who come on at 55 minutes.

Second half Galway were out thought on sideline and outfought on pitch.

Ability of KK forwards to win ball in second half yesterday was unreal.

Loughnane is a cunt

The two often go hand in hand.

Some hand grenade from Loughnane, does he have any history with Donoghue over the years. I wonder will fuller version of events of what happened with cunningham come out this year as loghnane has hinted at?

I know young Flynn was full of praise for Eugene Cloonan and his role in their development last year. Has he made himself a pariah with the mutineers? Anyway, Loughnane is on the money with that assessment. I said it here before, and someone echoed it today, the players ousted Cunningham and had a ‘nice guy’ dropped in in his place. What they needed was a thundering cunt. You need a presence on the sideline.

If this doesn’t light a fire inside them, then nothing will.
