Galway v Dublin hurling quarter final on in Croke Park next year as curtain raiser to Dublin footballers v Longford/Offaly. FFS sake. Galway should play all their home games in Tullamore
Not sure why Wexford were against Galway competing in Leinster minor and U21. I guess it was for selfish reasons, i.e. It would make it harder for us to progress to the All Ireland series.
Yeah, bit small minded but they are entitled to their vote.
Anyway, we have bigger problems than this.
Who else voted against this? Offaly? Kilkenny?
Iâm not so sure kp. I know we have huge problems, but some of them surely stem from the easy ride we get from minors up. This would have gone some way to addressing the rot at the root. Iâm really disappointed.

Agreed. I say âthe more, the merrierâ in hurlingâs premier province. Just hope it wonât affect our erelationship, mate.
A lost opportunity for what could have been but lets not let it come between us pal.
They should have come in when the seniors did, that was the time. They wanted it every way at the time and are in this mess now. If nothing else it might force some change in the system perhaps.
Maybe, but I doubt Galway have the clout or the will to force anything. We are too busy fighting with each other.
Well that was my next point. Still, I think a âwonât someone think of the childrenâ agenda will be pushed in the coming weeks and months.
Hard to argue with any of that
Leinster Council chairman John Horan expressed disappointment at the comments of Byrne and Treacy, rubbishing the suggestion that Galwayâs seniors were only accepted into the province to bolster Leinster coffers.
âFinances had nothing to do with this decision,â he stressed.
âWe gave Galway extra funding last year so to say they get paltry amounts is not fair. I would not accept the comments of Galway officials that this was a selfish decision. This was self-interest, counties looking out for themselves. There is a big difference between the two. The decision not to allow Kerry into the Leinster minor hurling championship was unanimous. The decision not to allow the Galway minor or U21 hurling teams into Leinster was far less unanimous.
âI am not surprised at the result. There was a sense that Galwayâs involvement at underage would hinder the development of emerging counties in Leinster. At senior level, counties are established. At minor level, lads are still developing. Galway have been so strong at minor level, winning seven All-Irelands in the last twenty years. Delegates took that into account when casting their vote.â
He added: âAt minor level, if you reach the Leinster final you get two bites of the cherry. Win or lose, you are guaranteed a place in the All-Ireland quarter-final. That is a pretty big carrot for developing counties. That carrot would have been less achievable with Galway in Leinster. That is why delegates blocked Galway.â
Let Galway into Munster minor so
And the seniors should follow.
Theyâve been there before and couldnât win a match . Better off targeting the much weaker Leinster championship , much better for all concerned re improving standards
They rarely win matches of consequence. The minors one a year or maybe two, same for the u21âs and the seniors. Seriously though, the minors need to be tested regularly. I reckon the minor and u21 championships should be trialled as a champions league type scenario, or an open draw, if that would mean too many games for lads to weave around exams/ work and club games.
Turlough are gone. Beagh v Ardrahan on next Sunday.
Co final 15th of Dec?
I am hearing Damien Hayes is gone off the panel.
Ah thatâs a pity. A great player.
He offered nothing when brought on this year in fairness. Would have been good management to let the lad announce his own retirement after all the service he gave
Hayes would be the type of fella who would be thick enough not to retire in the circumstances rather than bowing out gracefully
