His brother has been involved in a fair few All Ireland wins including Tipp and Limerick.
There arenât many David Boweies. Theyâve released two just albums and are already playing pretty big venues, thatâs major success in music in itself. That theyâve produced a film and itâs been critically acclaimed on top of that is impressive too. How many music acts can just go produce a film. All through the medium of a language hardly anyone speaks. They may not last very long but theyâre doing alright.
More importantly they seem to be popular on both sides of the divide in the north.
Which while a small thing can surely be only a good for continued peace in the north.
I didnât say otherwise, but theyâre the musical version of the banshees of inisheerin, an essentially mediocre film which was blown out of all proportion by Paddyâs desperation for attention. Itâs not the film makerâs fault that the oirish media desperately run round Hollywood humping the leg of anyone in a suit, but it doesnât mean the film is up to much. If it was Lithuanian, it would have passed unnoticed, but the oirish PR machine is honed by insecurity and desperation to be noticed and loved.
Kneecap captured the moment. Itâs trendy (and reasonable) to look down on Britain these days, but the film is good, but nothing more, as is the music.
They need to flog the horse before it dies.
The film won lots of awards and got positive reviews in Britain if Iâm not mistaken, I donât think itâs just Ireland hyping it up to be more than it is. I donât think Ireland is even hyping them up to be honest.
Just a general observation that we have a tendency to hype things up, and quickly move on.
I think the music is ok, and the film was slightly above average, but itâs not in the same league as something like The full monty.
Or metal lords.
Ah its more than slighlty above average. Its a niche market as it wont have a long sgelf life outside the island of Ireland. Comparing the music to the Full monty is unfair. The full monty had no original music. You might not like Rap (as i dont generally ) but its original and it is integral to the narrative. The movie itself is very well produced and considering the main guys arenât actors it is surprisingly good. It has too much sex and drugs to be main frame but fuck me it shakes the narrative around the Irish language out of its boots. Its reminicent of the shock Riverdance had on irish dancing only on steroids or Ketamine (depending which pocket you selected).
I was comparing it to the film as a representation of the state of a nation rather than the music.
Correct.Official Oireland are not fans of Kneecap. If one of the Burkes were in it heâd be all over them
Removing knees is ok with the Burkes. Their gripe is just a little higher up on the anatomy chain.
Iâm not sure a few lads risking a bit by highlighting the issues in Belfast and promoting the language are the exact same as some ex Mick writing a play about a few weirdos on an island off Galway.
@flattythehurdler has spent too much time on the mainland.
I must admit I sometimes put H.O.O.D on at full blast when Iâm doing some sprints at the end of a fun run. I know itâs patently ridiculous like @TheUlteriorMotive giving off Simon Harris ânew energyâ vibes cutting around watching Fontaines DC live. But I enjoy it & Iâm harming nobody.
Cos Iâm a H double O D
Low life scum, thatâs what they say about me
Except they are middle class gaelscoil types.
You hardly expect some school drop out from a working class background to learn irish let alone rap in it
I think youâre assuming lads in a gaelscoil have to be middle class here. And obviously that manchester city council would have made a better film.
The SUVs are circling
Kneecap are smart lads with one or two decent songs but if we are being honest they are a novelty act.
People said that about the Beastie Boys.
The falls road wouldnât be a middle class stronghold
