I live in my own world so Iâm still not sure if heâs talking about the actual full Monty
You genuinely seem to dislike anything or anyone whoâs working class or even vaguely connected to a notion of being working class both political and cultural. Itâs great to hear from someone like you though as itâs not a viewpoint id meet that often in real life.
Again one of your made up attacks on me. My sense is they are smart lads who know how to cultivate an image. They lean into the split the G and bags culture today along with the Provo Nua stuff. They slip up from time to time (youâll see on the interview that they get a bit confused on Beamish and Guinness) but get it right mostly. I think theyâre sharper than the image they like to put out there.
Not sure what that has to do with âclassâ but you keep fighting the fight comrade.
I think you are a great poster and have very interesting opinions but you definitely do have a dislike of anything that would be considered vaguely âworking classâ or at least a deep suspicion of it. Youâd surely notice that yourself. Most people in Ireland have that same feeling about anything âmiddle classâ even if they are middle class themselves
Not really. More that they were on a 9am radio with Pat Kenny show drinking (and it was more like a sip or two).
I think itâs a schtick, but it is leaning into corporate quickly. As I said, I think theyâre more Bono than Sinead OâConnor. They are very successful and I think theyâll make a lot of money just like he did.
Where did class come into my post?
Its definitely a schtick ffs. Sure they admit that themselves they are playing characters and playing up to stereotypes to wind people up and play with peopleâs heads about the view people have of âpeople like themâ. You hardly think successful smart lads drink cans at 9 in the morning midweek.
So to my point, I think theyâre heading down the Bono road and no harm in that.
What I want to know is where these lads actually come from?
If they are post GFA middle class types pretending to be ghetto kids still impacted by the war then they can fuck off back on the police landrover they came in on.
I havenât seen their film but I believe they say they are ceasefire babies and there is some trauma that flows down to them. In fairness, itâs a worthwhile thing to add onto the grift / schtick.
The language stuff is genuine and my sense is all the other stuff just flowed out of that once they got the ball rolling.
Middle class people canât be affected post-conflict?
You opened todayâs proceedings with vagueness concerning the hip hop group known as Kneecap. Trying to ascertain who these guys were as they were not familiar to you.
It now turns out youve watched every interview theyâve done and are very familiar with them.
You are not an honest actor Timothy.
Where did I open with vagueness? I commented on one interview with them.
Clearly I know who they are and how popular they are. I donât begrudge them their success.
You hate big Gaeilge
I think theyâre more of an example on how the Irish language can be more useful within influencers than paying people in the EU to translate directives.
Sure these things are never simple. What if they lived on the falls road as kids and moved out to a leafier area? What if the parents were teachers but lived in the middle of the falls road and were in the IRA? What if they were working class but had no involvement whatsoever in the conflict?
Ni ceapaim
Iâm not sure standard definitions of class apply in west Belfast. Two of them grew up along the Falls Road and went to a school in Ballymurphy. But then they also had parents heavily into the arts - middleclass in most areas but not necessarily so in west Belfast. If you are enquiring if they are from the Malone Road or something then they definitely are not.
West Belfast is a great spot to spend a few hours wandering about, a community that stuck together through the worst times and are reaping the benefits now. It annoys all sorts that fellas like this could emerge from there and be a worldwide success - that was never how it was supposed to be.
And its only beginning.
Whatâs the bono road in relation to these lads?
