Higuian’s goalscoring record in La Liga is superior to his one in Serie A where he has played much more minutes and a more focal point - yet he considers Serie A to be a tougher league.
Serie A is like the Ulster Championship, it is tough and competitive - it’s not a turkey shoot for the big teams to stroll home like it is in La Liga.
The PL is not the most competitive anyway and excitement is subjective. I personally find good football exciting so La Liga is more exciting to me. What do you mean by engaging?
Juventus are a good team, mate, I acknowledge that. They’re very much ploughing a lone furrow for Italy in Europe, though.
For those of us who followed Italian football in its heyday, the sight of sparsely populated stadiums you regularly see in Italy over the last decade or so is a sad sight. Serie A is a once premium product that has made its way into the bargain bin.
It’s the most competitive major league in Europe by a distance. Have a look at the various league tables. It has the best atmospheres and the best action.
The same three teams have finished in the top 3 of La Liga in the past 3 seasons, the top 3 in a league doesn’t say a lot about the the state of the league itself.
Germany has the best atmospheres in major European leagues anyway. Its probably the most competitive major league in Europe alright mainly because none of the top teams are any good but competitiveness doesn’t mean best. The Christy Ring cup is more competitive than the Liam McCarthy, doesn’t mean its better
The overall quality is the best of any league. Any team can beat anybody else. Today is a perfect example. This is the second season in three when the mega-rich reigning champions have been relegation candidates. Unheard of anywhere else.
Every week is a cup final, innit.
England also has the best football culture in Europe by far.
And a couple of weeks they had only dropped 5 points after 8 rounds of games. La Liga has the best number of top teams in it but it’s not the best league.
On the whole Serie A is the best league and the most competitive one around. La Liga is a turkey shoot for the big teams who coast along in second gear to wins over tactically naive teams. I have no interest in watching naive teams who don’t take their football seriously.
Yes, I really look out for the great players and what they do with their countries - the expectation on their shoulders, having to play with that hand you have been dealt and so forth. I think he has shown great leadership with this Brazil team at a young age.
He’s a little wanker though.
For me it is international football, more than club football that separates the true greats from the pretenders.
Any team has always been able to beat any other team in top flight football in England. Since 1968 English teams have won 12 European Cups from 42 attempts, a strike rate that is considerably ahead of any other country.
Every team in La Liga have technically excellent players with creativity and flair. It can be boring when Barca are playing Granada or a team like that but the games from about the top ten up put it up to the best teams generally and then the games between the smaller teams are also decent games with good technical ability on show. We aren’t going to agree so I’ll just leave it at that with you
