The reason people say doping undermines the integrity of a sport is because that’s exactly what it does. Armstrong showed he was the best doper, not the best cyclist. It was not longer a cycling competition. There was no real Tour in the year Armstrong won it. It was a doping contest and he won it.

Jimmy Magee is an alright sort but he consistently makes a right cunt of himself on the doping issue. Right up to USADA releasing their evidence against Armstrong he was still insisting Armstrong was innocent. Still maintains the innocence of a certain other notorious doper as well.

Oprah didn’t probe him more on it though.

Armstrong didn’t “bring anybody down with him” as people suggested he might. He several times went on about being “no friend of the UCI” but effectively defended them every time he mentioned them.
