Without doubt a creep, a sociopath and a narcissist, but arent the same people here wailing about the awful things Armstrong did the same bicycle enthusiasts who still defend Kelly and Roche. I suppose you could say Kelly took his medicine (what did he get a couple of small bans or what?) he is still a cheating doped up cunt but what has Roche senior to say about all this, anything at all? Safe hiding behind statute of limitations thatâs where. Of course big bad lance is now seemingly doing the same and is a monster for doing so.
Seriously, how do ye follow this sport, even the British heros cannot look anyone in the eye. Nic Roche another one you couldnât trust. How many of the last 30 winners of the tdf were clean? Its a joke but its not just lance there are cheating cunts as bad as him a lot closer to hone
Tyler is a fucking gimp. He was so âsincereâ in the old days he would make you want to puke. I stopped buying cyclesport because of all the Lance, Tyler, Postal love ins they used to publish.
I stopped it after the âwe support a drug free sportâ bilge of an issue after ten years of bigging up obvious cheats. I couldnât bear it any longer and cancelled the sub.
Seems to be the pesky comeback really fucked him up
Rumor has it that he couldnât bear watching sastre win the tour which was probably cleanish after the puerto scandal. He figured he could beat Sastre easily enough and once again prove himself the alpha dog.
â-Ishâ being the qualifier, it still was by no means a clean race.
Bernard Kohl who finished third was caught for CERA on a re-test a couple of months later and Riccardo Ricco who blasted up Hautacam like Pantani was caught for EPO a couple of days later.
What did seem to be there in 2008 was a real conviction amongst the authorities in France to weed out the problem. That had waned somewhat by 2009. What were the circumstances that led to Patrice Clerc leaving ASO, does anybody remember?
Fair points. When you strip away all the other extra-scummy stuff Armstrong has done like the personal threats etc there isnât a whole lot of difference between what Stephen Roche has done and what he has done. Roche immediately threw Kimmage under the bus when Rough Ride was published and was a constant defender of the omerta in the sport and still is, really. Thereâs no doubt that many people who demonise Armstrong, Team Sky and Seashell Myth canât bring themselves to do the same with Roche because Rocheâs Tour win is a cherished childhood memory for them, up there with Ireland beating England in Stuttgart and the 1990 World Cup. Itâs very uncomfortable ground for a lot of people, probably me included and against our better judgement we sometimes try to rationalise it by saying âah, but if he was at it, they were all at it anywayâ and âah, but Roche was always class, he won the the Paris Nice at 20â. This isnât a much different rationale from the people who defended Armstrong and believed in his myth - you could say Armstrong was always class because he won the World Championship at 21.
LeMond. Thatâs it.
Sastre too I reckon. Did you ever watch the film about csc? I think it was called overcoming. Bjarne Riis exasperatedly turns to the camera after watching Sastre fly up the alpe in training and says that he has no idea of his own potential if he prepared properly. A health nut,he wouldnât take anything from what I hear. He won a clean looking tour over a well spooked peloton with one attack on the alpe. I reckon he was clean. Cadel ???
Cadel possibly. Sastre probably was clean or at least not as fucked up as others. But he started is career at Once and he rode with Hamilton and Basso at CSC.
Would agree with that Sid. A fair summary. Roche acknowledged in his book that he wronged Kimmage at the time RR came out. Hadnât even read it. Also said he had no idea how bent the sport was, Hard to believe. Interesting point from the Lemond/Hinault book (Taming the badger, well worth a read) that Koechli the La Vie Claire DS didnât want Roche as Hinaultâs replacement.
Excellent interview with David Walsh on Newstalk just now. Surprisingly positive towards Armstrongâs interview and quite compassionate towards Armstrong and where he now finds himself.
âI would say heâs not in a good place mentally now.â
Will Walsh and Kimnage now go after Roche and Kelly?
Roche acted the cunt towards both as Sidney has referred and if all things were equal he should be their next target but I wouldnât hold my breath for it. And Kelly, he will get the freedom of Dublin before Walsh and kimnage go for him.
He raises fair points though. Roche and Kelly still deny all allegations of doping despite the evidence and the Irish sports media have always been extremely reluctant to press the matter, although I think itâs fair to say that Walsh and Kimmage have been vocal enough over the years.
I think we all know Roche/Kelly are doping cunts, but Armstrong is a doping cunt with a whole list of other horrible qualities. He is treated like a special case because he is one.
