Laochra Gael - Back, and to the left hand on top

Banagher is the concrete place.

It’s Shannonbridge I’m thinking of.

Won Leinster Football in 1997 and knocked reigning champions Meath out in 2000 too didn’t they? Must have been some buzz around Offaly GAA during the 80’s and 90’s.

That was Tommy Lyons and the Neutron Diet…and a young Elvis lookalike forward who also hurled Senior with Offaly.

Roy Malone. Don’t think he hurled

Scored a cracker of a goal v Meath in a Leinster final

That’s him alright. I know he was Rhode but I have some half-memory of him hurling U21 or a couple of games with Seniors…open to mature recollection on this though :wine_glass: :wine_glass:

It was all downhill after “Pure Mule”

I’d say your mixing him up with Roy Mannion. A talented Offaly Hurler who just wasn’t too bothered about hurling

Remember Ger Oakley with the poneytail and sideburns

Yeah shur wasn’t his nickname ‘The Towel’ because they use to bring him on for the last 10/15mins & when they were getting bate.

They’d say “oh look their throwing in the towel now.”

That Offaly team had loads of silky hurlers with magic in their wrists. Ger wasn’t one of them.

Offaly had a long haired lad with a big moustache for a bit in the early 90s who played midfield ,Connelly I think his name was .he was tidy enough but boy could he timber !

That’s right, Michael Connelly from Rynaghs I think, played in 93, a mullet/perm thing going on

Dermot Earley jnr on tonight. All-Ireland finalist right at the start of his career.

Lads are now getting Laochra Gaels because their dads were good footballers
