Late Late Show - The Misery Porn channel

Probably told it here before but a buddy of mine played above in Ards one day. He is a massive, hard, man a tight head prop without a scrap of sense. He got a notion anyway he was gonna avenge all Davy Tweed (then in his mid 40s) sins…he hit him hard and late into the noggin with all he had…not so much as a twitch and all he got back was a smile … Tweed went after him for rest of game and kicked the shit out of him … they left Ards without even a bowl of soup after a place that wouldn’t even pretend to welcome you

Why? Because they wear tracksuits?

Riding to Sundance in a RUC Land Rover with KNEECAP graffiti’d on the side doesn’t exactly scream middle class

@The_Most_Infamous will give you a list. Plenty of decent white rappers over the years. Sage Francis, EL-P, etc. but the reality is that is a form of music where black people have dominated and led the way. Then again, we’d have no rock n’roll without rhythm and blues, etc.

Are you conflating working class with scumbags so?

The Land Rover thing was a mighty publicity stunt.

Some of the film was shot in a house down the road that a friend of mine was in the process of buying at the time!

I’m just saying what I think most people would think of them before they hear them speak. There was lads from Ringsend doing similar rapping a while back that came across like toe rags from my memory. Like fenners, I’d never heard of them before tonight and was well impressed by them.

When I saw the lad with the tri colour tea cosy on his head I expected a whole pile of either scumbaggery or woke shite. And it was neither. They seem to have a bit of substance to them and are embracing the awkwardness of what they’re operating in. I think it’s brilliant.

Versatile? Wasn’t one of them actually from a private school?

There was a crowd from the flats down the street towards the East Link laneway. Not sure it was Versatile but my memory is half shot

@Mac analysing and getting giddy about the late late show is very very weird

Kneecap are brilliant

Dj is a posho, one lad went to school with him and other lad is from ringsend flats. They’ve admitted their whole act is subversive and they don’t engage with Irish media so Paul from Palmerston doesn’t know what to make of them. They’re there to cause a reaction but happen to have some banging beats quite similar to Kneecap. Kneecaps downfall will be woke warrior Lambo managing them

The tune with Grian from fontaines Dc is a banger too

It’s almost as weird as your three point turn from FG through SF ending up at the Greens

Not ending up with the greens as the climate disaster unfolds would be weird

When you’re second generation upper middle class you can afford to be whatever you choose

Shur most of the greens haven’t the brains to put up an umbrella, theyll hardly be much use in a bit of a shower

Tis great optics. Eamonn is in charge of designing rural bus routes in Connemara and West Cork to keep him busy while the lads who know how to sort it actually figure out how to fix things. None of them are in the Greens either

The Rubberbandits worked because it was so obviously a pisstake. It can work on that level. Eminem has a few alright moments. But rap as a genre is so intricately tied to its cultural context that it’s very difficult to make it work outside of that. That even applies to black rappers. Other genres of music lost their way because innovation stalled. Rap lost its way both because it couldn’t innovate further but also because it largely strayed outside the area of intelligent social commentary it was conceived as and into the glorification of the things it previously stood against. It’s also pretty samey compared to other genres because it’s largely vocal based rather music based. It’s probably the only genre of popular music that is primarily non-tuneful vocal based rather than tune and music based.

I know that white people rapping is pretty cringey and I know this from personal experience as one of the better white exponents of the rap genre on this island, now long since retired, except on very occasional occasions when I’m very drunk.
