Lawnmowers

I’m a March to September man myself fair covering of it out the back but less to do this year since we got a large enough area paved in October. Latest I’ve been told is we need an area for wildflowers! Since we’ve moved I’ve planted daffodils, snowdrops and 3 rose bushes all going well so far can’t say the same about a hydrangea looks dead at this stage. I got that plant finder app and we’ve 22 different types of hedges, bushes and trees. 4 beech trees at the side must be 60 foot tall had to get a guy in last October to cut some of the branches and trim the laurel as some of them were over 10 foot tall. I manage away with the rest, my old house used to take me 15 minutes to cut front and back, bit of a change but worth it in the summer when everything’s blooming.

Are all about the soil acidity as you probably know. They’re hardy enough. I’m no fan myself though.

So I had that fella out earlier, he thinks after looking at it and hearing my dimensions that it’s doable with one machine. He said the 430x would be ideal for what I have, it covers a range of 3,200m2. There would be a good bit of track to lay across a few different parts of the yard to connect them. There’s a bit of ground work to do to get ready for it though like a good bit of kerbing to be removed in a few areas and he also says an electrician will be needed to bring a current from the house or garage to a spot in the garden where the docking station will go to charge the mower. All in all I’d say if I bite the bullet it’ll cost in or around €4,000 but I’ll be getting a wedge back for trading in my ride on. Sure a new ride on would be about €4,000 anyway to get a good one so this is looking a bit of a no brainer.

I’m about a year off getting one myself. Looking at an Ambrogio rather than a Husqvarna. There’s a website in Germany that sells all the brands a good bit cheaper than the dealers here. You’d have to be able to set the cables yourself but that would be handy enough. Apparently the local Husqvarna crowd would also cover the warranty is anything goes wrong with it. There’s a good thread on boards about it.

Is this crowd better or worse than Husqvarna? What kind of warranty do you get on these things?

Not sure, not a whole pile to go wrong with them I’d imagine.

A few neighbors around me have Husqvarnas, I couldn’t get over the quality of the cut. Their lawns were like the greens in a golf course. You’d be fucking mad not to get one.

That’s what all the sharp people are saying yeah. They’ll be like electric cars, we’re about a decade ahead of the herd here.

Do the blades on the robots have to be replaced every couple of months?

Every three months. They’re cheap enough replace and easy apparently.

Price around, I recall getting a quote of around €3700 supplied and installed for the 430x.

Needs and outdoor socket too for the recharging base.

Its a no brainer. I couldn’t even justify buying a ride on, petrol, engine servicing and time… Time is the killer.

Have you the 430x? Yeah he said I’d have to get an electrician to sort the current out to the docking station in the garden.

Should have one within the next few months.

Ya, they’re like little Stanley blades

How are you finding the Husqvarna front deck mower now @carryharry ? Am I right in saying that doesn’t collect your grass and just leaves it there? It would certainly save on time but I’m not sure I want that kind of effect on my lawn, plus I have a nice discreet area to dump the grass without it being an eyesore. I guess if you cut it with your machine before it got any way long it’d solve the issue of leaving tracks of cut grass on the lawn.

I’ve more or less decided against the robot for now and will go with a new ride on instead. The timing just isn’t right for the robot now but I’ll get one down the line alright. Question now is probably between getting a Husqvarna ride-on or Castlegarden. Husqvarna seem to be mulchers though whereas Castlegarden has the bag and seem a good bit cheaper of the two. Although the ride-on I’m getting rid of it is a second hand Castlegarden that I bought and I hadn’t much luck with it.

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy hard to believe anyone wouldn’t be mulching in this day and age
