What went on today? There was a spectacular crash or somthing?

Mental.
Any of the big guns affected by it?
Some biggish names but don’t think anyone with a hope of winning overall was hugely affected.
Simon Gerings (spl) from Orica Greenedge was one to abandon. The FJR rider who abandoned got some landing.
I’ll say now Froom will hold onto the yellow barring a disaster on the cobbles tomorrow
Cancellara abandoned after the crash. He had been leading. No major contenders injured or Nico.
He must have abandoned last night as he got to the end of the stage. Looked shook alright
How is Nico going?
Has the tour of France reached France yet ?
He is ‘road captain’. Organising the bottles and stuff. Saw him finishing having a chat with someone on Sunday. Basically there as a helper.
Now there’s a fancy title for a shitty job.
Froome impressive today despite losing yellow
With another long flat day tomorrow, he allowed it to be lost. Means the lads don’t have to defend the jersey on what is , barring misfortune, a meaningless stage in the overall pursuit of yellow. I suspect if they hadn’t wanted to lose the jersey for a stage at least, sky could have chased it down. Froome only gave one dig, when it looked like he could take a few more seconds off a few of his challengers, but quickly packed in when no one helped.
It’s a shitty job alright, but in cycling, there are a lot shittier, the lucky lucky bastard.
Fucking nay sayers on here… Nico’s job in which is the top top team in the TdeF is very responsible. Good on him. I’m very happy to see him doing well.
Not looking good for Tony Martin. Collar bone perhaps
He’s quit now. Broken collar bone, requiring surgery. Apparently the bone was sticking through the skin - still finished the stage though.
There’s a grand true story about an Italian lad (who now , in his seventies, runs a car dealership near monsal iirc). He was in the polka dot jersey with two stages left, including one big mountain stage, when he fell and broke his collarbone. He was far enough ahead that he only had to finish the tour to win the KOM, so he wound an extra roll of bar tape around the bars, stuck the othe end in his teeth, and used that to pull on the bars whilst climbing, and finished the tour.
Tyler Hamilton cycled pretty much the whole tour with a broken collarbone, and through such pain that he had to have all of his molars capped, as he had ground them down through the three weeks of it.
As an aside, nibali is a cunt of a man.
Knew the Hamilton story, not the other one. Hard mans sport.
Why the Niabli hatred?
